If you have enough room to float it into the room, it might be OK to have it there. I think the function of the room dictates furniture placement. Picutes of your room would help.

i have the exact same problem. My bay window curves in more at the edges and there is no built in. I made a seating bench using a coffee table and custom bench pillow pushed the couch away from it as i possibly can and made a reading area for my kids.

hard to tell much as pic doesn't show it all. but first off, I can see you sofa is very large scale with the rolled arms adding more.. Is it possible to put 2 smaller scale ( but comfortable) accent chairs in this area facing TV and have couch facing bookshelves?If not, leave it and use it more as area to put items of interest but don't clutter it.. Almost as a sofa table behind the sofa.
We live differently now than they did when these homes were built and furniture is large..

I'm trying to envision the room as you mentioned. First of all, I LOVE the window seat~ how charming:) Have you ever considered arranging the room on an angle? Would that be possible? If you have a couple of chairs to add to the arrangement with the sofa? First move all furniture back and bring the area rug in at a 45-degree angle. Next, try bringing the sofa in on the short side angle of the rug. Do the same with the 2 chairs on opposite side. Add a coffee table and side tables, along with lamps,accessories. I know a photo would explain this so much better, and I will try to find one. The drawback is you will probably need an electrician to put some floor outlets in so the cords are not visual and strung across the floor.If you arrange that and tweak the chairs,sofa, and still don't like it, can you put the sofa on the left side of the room, pulled away from the wall, and add chairs across from it with each angled in? This time, try it with area rug straight, not angled. Just keep playing with it, while trying to keep in mind that the purpose of the room is probably a reading/watching tv area. I can see how this is a bit of a challenge, but I would just add panels to the windows, and a comfortable cushion & pillows to the window seat and let it be its own area.

Try taking the TV off the fireplace wall and put it on the side wall. Move the sofa to the opposite wall of the TV. Bring in 1 or 2 chairs and a small side or center table to flank the fireplace (maybe host or side chairs from the Dining room). Then fill the window seat with a seat cushion and pillows.
