I would hesitate to use this plain-sawn maple flooring over radiant heat. The reason is that the plain-sawn maple might cup or shrink due to the heat transmission. We have done many wood floors with radiant heat, but they have all incorporated quarter-sawn wood, usually oak, since the quarter-sawn material is very dimensionally stable. We have never had a problem with quarter-sawn wood floors over radiant heat. I have attached a photo of quarter-sawn oak for comparison.

Hi,
For this cabin on Lake Superior, we used a local Michigan maple floor. The floor was a lower grade than we would typically use, which reduced costs and also gave a more rustic feel to the cabin.

I can't think of a single thing to add to this room. Understated but gorgeous while still being a room I can see real people wandering thru. If they're lucky!

We use a water-based, very tough finish called BONA Kemi Traffic. It is designed for light commercial use, which means it is very durable in a residential setting. It will not yellow over time.

The window frames are all vertical grain Douglas Fir.
