Since he seems be a basketball fan I would continue with the theme and yes a mural would be perfect for the room ,with one wall painted in a complimentary colour like the blue that you have chosen .

i did my son's in BM feather gray...gray with a subtle blue

He will most likely need a queen bed or at least a long twin soon! I think most people would get tired of a mural? I would pick our a few colors and then let him pick which he likes and consider adding a very large sheet of thin metal somewhere that he can use to personalize with magnets (plus it looks cool). I updated my teens room a few years ago with a vintage bedroom set, dark grey walls (he picked), a large leather chair and vintage style posters of things he liked (Dr. Who). Most importantly, a good size trash bin and great laundry hamper because it WILL get trashed lol.

We did my 12 year olds room in this colour. Looks great with his black furniture and sports trophies up on the wall.
