I would be very hesitant to put anything that permanent on my soapstone. I just purchased two slabs which will be installed in a few weeks. Have been googling away for some time on this topic and because soapstone isn't porous, that could be a problem for you. There is another option to good old mineral oil, Dorado Soapstone has a wax that needs to be applied but it does last longer than mineral oil. Check that out first before a 10 year commitment that could change the beautiful feel of your soapstone. It will eventually develop a patina of its own!

That's kind of my thinking too. It doesn't seem to be a common practice for soapstone. Please share pics once your project is complete. I ordered my slab yesterday. Picking a paint color is next, I'd like a dark, warm grey with a lighter grey for adjoining room. What color paint are you using?
