I think the mustard tone is a bit too heavy on the duvet. I would try to brighten it with a white cover and some fun bright pillows.

Turquoise/orange/camel and/or white bedding would look a lot fresher with the walls and furniture. Traditional beachy. Add some darker chocolate brown, olive or some leave patterns for a warmer winter feel.

But to make the duvet work, add wood roller blinds. The room needs some earthy brown. Then again, personally, I think the duvet looks old.

Well if the comments continue in that train of thought, I think I'll go back to my "summer" white duvet (with Fushcia and apple/lime green highlights) Too bad as this winter duvet is so much more confortable for our afternoon winter breaks...We are retired after all and we do live in the Northern part of New Brunswick Canada LOL!!

No wood/bamboo roller blinds? They'll look great in both your winter and summer look.

I like the wooden or woven wood blind idea. I think your duvet would work with the room if you incorporate some white into the bedding. Do you have white sheets so you could fold the duvet back as pictured? Also adding some white in an accent pillow or sham would work.

Thank you liniac! I tried the white sheets with the duvet fold back, added white pillow shams and mustard yellow pillows and I right away noticed a nice fresher look! 0 cost...as all ,things I already had! Thank you again!

I know you just painted the furniture white, but there is a paint called Annie Sloan Chalk paint and it works beautifully to distress furniture and to make it look old. It adds a lot of charm. You add a dark wax to the white to give it character. I think it would add to your white painted furniture. Go to the website. Also, if you could hang you flat screen tv on wall to give you space on the chest of drawers, that would be nice.

You need a headboard! That is what is missing. A nice white upholstered headboard with white linens would bring everything together. They have some inexpensive ones on wayfair.com.

HI Tks for the input kira5817! I'm like a sponge here absorbing everyones great ideas! There is actually a headboard behind the cushions...but I love the idea of putting a bigger one....I'll stard looking around......No wayfair in Canada ...too bad for us!!!

Tks Karen Dumont. You're right about hanging the TV!! I will however not go the route of antiquing furniture. That is really not a style I like. But the TV will definitely be hung! Tks!

I say put a print topper with bright colors & colors from your comforter should be somewhere if just a speck or hint in it; add colored sheers on each end of the rod ( which is underneath the topper at this point; use a double rod hanger . use a pop of color with your throw at the end of the bed, pillow with other patterns and little decorative nick nacks here or there and add a picture with some color use a trio (three pictures in a row with color different scenes ..try to find oblong (rectangle) add a floral in your vases if you find some

A white blanket folded at the foot of the bed and a few white throw pillows would help. Also the pillow shams are so large they are hiding your head board. It looks like you don't have one. Smaller pillows would help.

This is a pretty room but the bedspread is all wrong. Try something with a white background

I would rather go with something beige/warm colour than a grey or blue shade. They look stylish and light but just a bit cold.

Pardon a completely ignorant question from a Californian (where we live with one season year round, plus or minus a few degrees and an occasional splash of rain)-- what is the difference between a summer duvet and a winter one? We use a down-filled duvet here no matter what the season, changing out the duvet covers, and it works well.

After rereading your post, I'm wondering if layering covers might be a solution worth trying. Put a cashmere or mohair throw on the bed for added warmth when needed?

Hi kathynecheng! Indeed the duvet itself remains the same but for our Northern, very cold winters, I like to use a warmer fabric for the cover just to give a warmer "feeling" to the bedroom. Comes April, my duvet cover is white with a splash of Fuschia and apple green...Breezy...and fun as we live on on beachfront.

Ah! I see the issue. I grew up back East, and I remember that we layered covers to cope with the cold season. (One year I used an electric blanket, but that experiment ended when the controller caught fire!) ;)

I think I still need a taller headboard though...right? I'll be getting my Daniel Lopez abstract painting evaluated and may sell it. My "older" comforter set will be going on Kijiji! Design always , in my book anyway should be practical . I would have monograms done in a large bold font in the same white as drapes. Also a throw in same color with texture. Last but not least a small rug under the bed with all your colors would tie everything together nicely . Good luck.
