I would trim it

Trees are beneficial to our home...they provide shade in the summer time (cuts down on AC on time a lot), the trees lose leaves in the winter so house now gets the needed solar radiation in cold months. But when a tree gets so big that it may become a hazard in a wind storm it is time to trim it.

As the years go by you'll need to keep in mind that the roots can grow into your foundation and water and sewer pipes.

From your picture, the tree looks like it's doing well. I would leave it alone unless you have branches that are dead. You want it to have a full crown to provide shade.

Here in Washington State we're all for trees! (So long as it doesn't hurt your home.) Find a good gardener or arborist to trim it down.

The landscape designer that created our landscape plan included two river birch trees in the plan. I hate them both. They shed limbs and/or leaves year round. The roots are ruining our patio, one is ruining our koi pond. I would take it down now before the roots become too invasive and it becomes almost impossible to get rid of it.

Consider replacing w a Japanese Maple slightly to the right of the current placement. It will still shade the porch, and will balance better without endangering the house.
