I like it much better with the current exterior. I think painting the front door a more neutral colour and landscaping the yard would make a big difference.

How about this front door overhang? Add shutters to all of the 2nd floor windows. Maybe white wash the brick lightly to match the finish of the chimney brick. Landscape.

Landscaping will help anchor the house and make a world of difference. I would not paint the brick.

Don't paint the brick. It adds texture to the façade. Paint the door a ruddier red that you pick up from the brick. The pergola will look odd and tacked on. If you're planning to sell, you don't have time to add climbing vines to the pergola in any case.

You can accomplish much more by landscaping the front--deep, graceful mulched beds that extend out from the house with varied plantings. Get a local nursery to help you plan the landscaping. Maybe one of the Houzz photoshop landscaping gurus can give you a rendering. It'll make a huge difference in look of your house.

i know landscaping would make difference but it will take time to be there and meanwhile we daily see our house and think what we can do for instant facelift, we have planted spring and summer bulbs .

Landscaping will take away the ''plopped down in a field'' look and connect it to the site. The color choice was unfortunate, as it clashes with the brick and contributes to the alien intruder feel of the home. It would have been fine for the door, but is MUCH too intense for the whole body. It's a resale drawback, and needs to have a high priority to be addressed.

Are you looking for permission to tack on a pergola and slap paint over the brick, which gives your house some visual interest? Then I guess you came to the wrong place since all the responders pretty much say the same thing. I think you're underestimating the instant facelift professional landscaping can provide. Sticking in a few bulbs, planters, and flowers isn't what people are suggesting but substantial landscaping that probably won't cost more than the pergola, which will hang there, naked.

I think the house is basically OK the way it is, but the building lot is the place you need to put your effort. The sidewalks hugging the house are very severe and what is that circle that we get a glimpse of that is located in the lower right corner at the end of the sidewalk? A nicer walkway, perhaps curved, with layers of landscaping will instantly transform the appearance and add tons of curb appeal.

but i am really worried , actually we loved hardie siding in iron grey so did it , now i am really crying :(

The color isn't that bad at all. Don't second guess yourself. Just soften the red door then get a nursery to plan and plant some serious in-depth landscape of several feet of shrubs, grasses, mulch, perennials to soften the front of the house and garage.

If you get, say, eight out of ten people, who say the same thing, do you then go with the other two? Then do that and stop posting. Most people here, based on knowledge and experience of how to get curb appeal, said no pergola, no painting the brick. They suggested serious, professionally planned landscaping. Why are you driving yourself nuts on a house you're going to sell by looking for some other answer? Over and out.

The red door and random shutter placement are the biggest problems. Fix them first.

Thanks housegal , actually when you are thinking to sell a house but hear a word "biggest resale drawback " then you automatically get worried :(
anyway we dropped the both ideas and now only concentrating on landscaping , but as many of you suggested to change door color , what color from bricks i should go for ??? shutters will arrive in few days.

The red should be much more muted, and browned down. Not a burgundy, but not so primary. :) Maybe SW "Rustic Red".

with all shutters and by muting door , how would you like it ?? i want visual confirmation please before painting door what i got color in my mind.

Try a soft buttery yellow for the entire door and side lights. Put much larger rust planters with 6' tall Arborvitae down to each side of the side lights. Talk with the landscaper you will want something that will stay relatively thin and not grow much taller. Change your door mat to a darker welcome mat. More substantial. Loose the shutters. Plant a couple of evergreen shrubs strategically placed along the front using soft curves. Good Luck

I think your home is gorgeous. I also think buying some mature trees for landscape would make a big difference.
