While you can typically machine wash synthetic fibers such as acrylic (the fiber from which this rug is constructed), it is not recommended to machine was a shag rug. The manufacturer recommends regular vacuuming with a brushless attachment, occasionally clipping loose ends with scissors (never pull them) and possibly get the rug professionally cleaned if necessary.
