I am altering the trim in my brothers house. He is unsure if he wants to do white enamel or dark stain. He has a medium stain now and we are wondering if anyone on here has re-stained a whole house? And has any tips and tricks. The other problem we are having is wether to use gel stain or poly-shades if we decide to with darkening the stain

We are really far from making any decisions, so any advise would help
