I think your family room could use the contrast of light-colored pillows, so the first thing that comes to mind is beige. You can choose pillows with subtle patterns and colors, but they need to look and feel light and fresh and have a lot of beige in them. In other words, don't go for heavy fabrics with solidly dark colors and patterns like those you currently have. You're inclined towards earthy colors, which can become too heavy if the room is laden with them.
