We just finished reupholstering our "little old lady sofa." We took the sofa from my grandmother's friend who was downsizing and needed to remove some of her furniture. My grandmother thought of me because I was in the market for a new sofa for the living room, and I was happy to check it out. But when we arrived with the truck to haul it away, I wanted to run in the other direction! The shape was not what I wanted, and it had an old smell to it. But we took it home anyway simply because we didn't want to offend my grandmother's friend, and she needed the help. We figured we could just give to charity if need be.

But the sofa started growing on me. You can see in the before pic that it was a wingback sofa with floral print. I started doing research on how to make a wing back sofa work for my taste. I finally found the Churchill sofa from RH (I included a pic of that one too) as an inspiration piece and decided to go for it. We found an upholsterer who was willing to cut off the "Yoda ears" as I call them on the wing back to give it more of a modern shape that I enjoy. And we added tufting for a little glam. We went with three cushions instead of one for durability (we have a lot of kids). And we are so happy with it! You can see in the "during" pic how the upholsterer kept the curvy shape of the top corner by reattaching the wooden piece to the frame. I think they did well. Now to finish off the living room with our new beautiful sofa!
