Yes.... It's dead. I re-do all faux finished walls to smooth. If you want something different for one particular wall or room, try a lacquer finish in the paint.

Wallcovering is hotter than it has been in years. The color and style are available for sure. And, it will last far longer than a paint job.

Cleanability is always my first criteria when it comes to any of the wet rooms. Anything that can't stand up to being scrubbed is off of my list. There's just too much, um, associated damage, in toilet zones to try for something that can't be easily cleaned.

I personally am living through our remodel and have been pouring through source books for wallpaper -- so many choices and the adhesives have come along to be less messy. In the end, they will be easier to change than sanding and refinishing the heavy set of venetian plaster.

beadboard for a cottage-y look, wainscotting for traditional/period look, tile for contemporary--all will withstand a scrub

if you've loved the villa feeling of tuscan decor your whole life and have never wavered when you open a fabulous magazine; if your home is open and spacious; if you live in a climate-appropriate location --- who are we to say DON'T??

however the cost of removing it when you get tired of it [or you sell at a reduced price!] will likely pay for the tuscan vacation in the real thing!
