Part of custom cabinetry, I would assume.

I had the same question and a flash of inspiration struck: a magazine rack would be that same V shape.

For example: http://www.amazon.com/Spectrum-3-Tier-Wall-Mount-Holder-Magazine/dp/B001RLUMYK/ref=sr_1_19?ie=UTF8&qid=1344143945&sr=8-19&keywords=magazine+rack - not as pretty as wood, but seems to be about the right size for shoes if units were mounted further apart.

For this next one: http://www.amazon.com/Design-Ideas-Magazine-Clutch-Silver/dp/B001FCYRUG/ref=sr_1_45?ie=UTF8&qid=1344144051&sr=8-45&keywords=magazine+rack - if you remove the "legs" of the rack, you could then mount the body to the wall.

Similarly, you could remove the valleys of this rack: http://www.amazon.com/POUNDEX-F4626-Poundex-Magazine-Table/dp/B002XUKXES/ref=sr_1_128?ie=UTF8&qid=1344144212&sr=8-128&keywords=magazine+rack.

This might work if you can remove the feet and handle: http://www.etsy.com/listing/105454242/vintage-mid-century-atomic-retro-metal?ref=sr_gallery_7&ga_search_query=magazine+rack&ga_view_type=gallery&ga_ship_to=ZZ&ga_min=0&ga_max=0&ga_ref=auto4&ga_includes[]=tags&ga_search_type=all

If you find a tasteful wooden one, please post a link!
