Paint color for nursery - girl

Hi there, I am hoping to get general direction on paint color for my baby's nursery. I love vintage floral sheets and am making her bed din gin a whole mix of different 50s, 60s and 70s florals in all sorts of colors (mainly pastels, but some brights with orange). I also scoured some flea markets to get really cute little painting and framed pictures with Holly Hobbie type images, little birds, etc. I would love to see pops of tiffany blue, pink and yellow around the room.

I have a chair rail already installed on the walls and am wondering if I should do two paint colors or one? And also, if I should go with a really light pink for the background with cream or white? A light Tiffany blue (I have a lot of blue rooms in house already though)? Or any other suggestions...? I am trying to steer clear of gray, since I am tired of seeing it everywhere already and I am worried that all white or ream will be too stark.

Thanks! Now I understand better. Sewing with your vintage fabrics is such a wonderful idea/look. Depending on which fabrics you end up using, either a pale pink paint like the one in this picture or a warm white would both look great on the walls. Be sure to do paint brush-outs on the wall to check the color during different times of day. What will be on the floor? All my very best to you! Cynthia Wright

HI! Are the photos that you have here pictures of the actual room or just "look and feel" pictures of what you like? If the second picture is of the actual room I would paint a warm white such as Benjamin Moore Simply White (try it with the painted wood dresser and crib before final choice of white). The room is wonderful and full of personality and all your thoughtful shopping for vintage pieces will show best in a white space. If these are not photos of the actual space and you are planning a more minimal look, then you could use a soft light pink or a soft neutral like Benjamin Moore Seashell with crisp white trim. The nursery you are describing sounds so much like one my niece decorated. She used a bright watermelon - coral color on the walls. The white furniture and little vintage prints just popped against the cheerful, bright walls. Wish I had photos to show you. She used sheets of scrapbook paper in assorted tiny prints to wallpaper the inside of the baby's closet. Good luck.

If you are going with tons of colorful bedding and accessories, I would stick with a white shade. To add interest, I white with lilac undertones would be fun. Best of luck!

BZD, I am not totally opposed to greige - I just don't want to be following trends. Nearly everyone I know is doing gray and pink for girls right now. I like to be a bit offbeat. That said, it does seem like a good backdrop for the pastels. I guess that's where my questioning is coming in. Are there other options, or should I just give in and go gray/greige?

Hi Cynthia, These are not my room or item pictures, but my stash of fabrics and the look I am hoping for are very similar. I sew, so I am planning to make my bedding and use the same pink ruffle fabric for a bedskirt, etc. Thank you for the kind advice. I had one more picture I found with pale pink, which is when I opened my mind to that color.

in my daughters room, on the all the crib is on I used Sherwin Williams comical Coral and on the other 3 walls I used Sherwin Williams Barcelona Beige. It turned out really cute. I have attached a few pictures before the nursery was done. The bedding colors are attached too. the top is the fitted crib sheet then the other layers is a ruffled crib skirt.

Thanks again, Cynthia. The carpet I have right now is beige. I could put some area rugs on top for color, but haven't gotten that fa yet. If I do a pal pink like this, should I use a warm white for the top or bottom with it due to the chair rail?

I would use the pale pink on the whole wall with the warm white trim color on the chair rail, ceiling, and all wood trim and doors.

If you end up doing the blue I used Pittsburgh paints handsome hue in my daughters room - very nice robins eggs blue (the next darker color on the chip is called cool lagoon and that is a true Tiffany blue). I find it to be very neutral - every color I've used pops nicely against it.
