Usually we get less trick-or-treaters when Halloween falls on a Friday or weekend day. I think more people go to parties.

Always need a few bags of the chocolate mix from Costco on hand. Kit Kats, Resse's and Twix are my faves.

Our town had the Zombie Crawl last weekend....great costumes. That was mine.

In more than 25 years in the country we have never had a single trick-or-treater, they all go into town to the subdivisions. When my girls were small and we lived in town I would take them out around the neighborhood and my husband would stay home and hand out the candy. It was always the neighborhood dads and I, and always a lot of fun.

Im sad that we don't get any Trick or Treaters :( I always loved watching how creative kids can make a costume and the love of pretending! Times have change Im taking my grandkids (1st time) to Trunk n Treat... we'll see how that goes...

Throngs doesn't even begin to describe it. There is a steady stream of costumed children mobbing our front porch, without pause, for hours. We don't even bother shutting the door. We just sit out on the porch in costume with bowls of candy in hand, and extra packages to refill when needed. We love it!

It's hard to say. Last year we ran out of candy, so I bought more this year. With my luck we'll probably have a ton of candy left over.

The turnout is weather dependent; some years we run out of candy, other years I get to indulge my sweet tooth- win/win :-). The other reason it's one of my favorite holidays is DW lets me hang my Halloween themed photos in our living room and she gets out her decorations.

I change up the candy every year but love to hand out vampire teeth and glow sticks too :-)

Definitely not a throng. Halloween isn't widely celebrated in Mexico (Día de Muertos is November 1 and 2), so in eight years I've only had one group of trick or treaters, but I buy candy just in case. Snickers minis are my favorite, but this year I got a mix of those, Twix, Mars, M&Ms, etc.

We live out in the country so unfortunately no kids showing up here.....but I'll be taking my 10 year old into town tonight to trick or treat. I love Halloween- just a fun scary time with no presents to buy or family expectations- it's all about the kids having fun. Best holiday all year long in my opinion! I love to decorate the house inside and out. Favorite candy from childhood- Bit O Honeys!

We get quiet a few kids. They come from different area as well, not just from the community. We usually give handfuls of candies to each kid and the news seems to spread fast:) Usually, there is no leftovers, but if there is, the school collects it and sends it to the troops.

At my last place, I never got trick or treaters because the street was a extremely busy thoroughfare and no parent would let their children walk along it after dark. This is my first Halloween at my new condo and I have laid in a supply of mixed Hershey minis in case I actually get any knocking at my door this year.

(I wish we were in a place where there were goblins coming for candy; but alas, that is a drawback to living in the spooky woods! It's too far away and too scary for them!)

My mom reported that they gave out 6 big Halloween-size bags of candy in 45 minutes last night. Sheesh! It went fast!

Our neighborhood hasn't gotten any ToTers since before we moved here. We are generally out with the kids anyway

I'm a Christian and don't observe Halloween as I don't want to celebrate death, demons and all things evil not to mention the occultic origins of the day. We turn off our outside lights, and have never had anyone come to the door.

I'm wondering - here in the Washington, DC, area the news has been covering a story a lot lately about a letter that was written to a local advice column in the newspaper. The writer was from a well to do area and was complaining about all the "poor" children who get brought into her neighborhood to trick-or-treat. It has started a whole debate about whether or not it is appropriate to go outside your local neighborhood to trick or treat, whether teenagers should be allowed to trick or treat, etc. Are other parts of the country having this discussion? There is a "Room For Debate" discussion in the New York Times today on that topic. Personally I welcome trick or treaters from poorer neighborhoods. I love feeling I live in a neighborhood that is both safe and generous. The more the merrier (and I love the costumes!)

Rarely get any activity down this dead end street. I don't get the candy anymore because I cant count on any children coming. Overall, I hate Halloween because of the cults and animal torture and sacrifices as ritual. The humane societies stop adopting out black cats the beginning of October so they are safe from that sick practice. Cults will get animals ahead of time and keep them until Halloween. Please protect your pets. Keep them inside. The thought of that turns my stomach.

I've always lived in the country and never had trick or treaters... but this year we're in an apartment complex so I've got a feeling this is my year! I'm so excited to see all the kids dressed up.

I live on a short, flat street about 2 long blocks by an elementary school. In the past I have used a clicker to count the kids. Last year our clicker broke by the end of the night. I recorded more than 500 trick or treaters. Usually we have more if it falls on a weekend. However, the rain may keep the numbers down this year. I buy 8 huge bags of candy from Costco. It costs around $120. It is known as the special tax to live on this street!

We get 100s of kids, but last year instead of handing out candy, I roamed the neighborhood in costume. This year supposed to be snow, so back to handing out candy from the safety of my warm house. Might still wear the outfit though.

@Haley, I definitely understand and respect your decision about
halloween. Just know, I'm not celebrating or having any such thoughts in my mind. It's just the free candy we're after. ;) Have a great night relaxing, I'll be walking, hopefully not too far. :)

As for celebrating death and evil, I don't..I just like the kids coming to get candy and seeing their cute costumes. I rarely see any scary costumes.

I'm a christian and don't see anything wrong with most parts of halloween. My family and I decorate the house, hand out candy, dress up in appropriate costumes and carve pumpkins!

Well I'm sad to report that, despite living in an apartment complex full of children, we didn't have any trick or treaters. I was so excited, but it turns out that one of the side effects of parents taking their kids from poorer neighborhoods to trick or treat elsewhere is that us adults who live in those poorer neighborhoods don't get to participate :( On a related note, anybody need about six pounds of laffy taffy?...

I didn't get any either. Guess I will be taking this left over chocolate to work for the residents.

Printesa it may well be a fake letter in the article, but if you go to the Washington Post or Washington Times they have other articles referring to it and debating the subjects it brought up. The tv news and radio news casters were debating it as well.

The candy always seems to find a place to go... :) I always wait to buy candy the day after Halloween... LOL ... because I am CHEEP! :)

I went with the kids and my husband stayed home to give out candies..He said that he stopped counting after 160..it looked like this year there were more kids and also, more people were ready for Halloween

I had about 50 kids stop by this year, only a handful of teens. I always give the kids a choice of a toy or candy. This year I had small flashlights (batteries included...what a find!) and sidewalk chalk (not of much interest this year) and then I got the movie size boxes of candy ($1 per box in a wide assortment)

I find you spend so much on that tiny stuff and that it gets smaller every year, I may as well just spring for the big boxes. I try to find toys between $1 to $2 The kids seem to appreciate it, the parents don't get stuck policing the candy or taking it to work to dispose of and I don't get fat nibbling it prior to Halloween. I watch all year and then buy 20 of 2 different toys. I have candy for the traditionalists (mostly teens) and find most kids pick a toy. Toys not handed out can be stashed away for next year and the last kids before I turn out the lights get all the candy I have extra (which this year was only 3 boxes.

When did kids stop liking sidewalk chalk? ;0(

Had a great time this year ,took the doggie along,she went as Chewbauca ,I went as HanSolo..neighborhood block party...no devil worshiping or cult action anywhere in sight.

In this part of the globe, no one has hardly even heard of Halloween!!!

Neighborhood children only--75- 100-- HOA hires off duty police to stop cars not from neighborhood--husband loves the children-- gives bags of individual chips or Capri Sun drinks-- depends on his mood!!

retire2012, that is strange,,to stop cars that are not from the neighborhood. Is this a gated community? How do they know which car is from there or not? Not only that, but what gives them the right to stop a car?

Our development has few kids, and every year has a huge party at the shopping center that is part of the development, with treats, toys, games, prizes and a costume parade, for adults and kids.

Printessa, some developments have private roads, the cars are tagged. I live in such a community, but the main roads are used as bypasses. The only time the roads are blocked is in natural emergencies, like hurricanes, to keep people on the main thoroughfares. And according to my neighbor, it hasn't happened in the 30 yrs she's lived here.
