wondering same thing, looking to do dark cabinets and also want wood floors

depends on the style of the cabinet. I am doing espresso in my kitchen (but only the island). the rest of my cabinets will be white. The new red oak floor will be stained Jacobean. The dark grains in the oak floor will pick up the espresso stain of the island very nicely.

I just finished an extensive kitchen remodel. My floors are almost identical to these and my cabinets are expresso. My kitchen is stunning!

I have an island wall that is grey with a dark glaze wipe, and another piece of furniture in the room (also grey with dark glaze wipe) that is the bar/media center. I looked forever before deciding on the floors and the ones I picked work perfect. I worried that the room would be too dark. I have a lot of stainless (range, hood, wall oven, warming drawer and refrigerator), and light grey glass tile backsplash that reflects light. I will try to post pictures tomorrow.

I can see the dark cabinets with these rustic floors. I think the contrast would be stunning.

The lighting makes the island wall look blue but it is much closer to grey. The floors I used are Naturally Aged Flooring, pre-finished engineered, Maple Chestnut, 5 inch wide planks. http://www.naturallyagedflooring.com/products.htm

We had a great kitchen designer who took our ideas and really took the project to the next level. Our Jack Russell Terrier, Gracie, is just glad the project is over so she can get some much needed rest!

This kitchen makes me rethink my light placement: My kitchen layout is very similar. I've planned to center the recessed lights over the walkway, rather than over the edges of the countertops. I will only have 1 row of recessed lights. Will that be ok if they are centered over the walk space? I want to make sure i have enough light over the island (which will have 2 pendants, it's 8' long). I will have under cabinet lights on the long perimeter wall. Thanks!

Centering the recessed light over the walkway will create shadows in your work area. The lighting should be over your work areas for maximum efficiency..
