A new light fixture would help there is way too much stuff in such a small space your art is way too high the center of this should be at 5' in a DR for sure I would remove the display cabinet and put a narrow buffet or console table under the art and take the little table out too. Leave the tablecloth off the table and add a nice centrepiece and I would not use a geometric pattern on these chairs a nice stripe would suit them better. The mirror is also hung too high maybe that above the buffet would work I think the bar cart is just too much for this space maybe move to the kitchen or another space as the wood does not really work here Clutter makes any small space feel smaller so keep it simple

Sorry the table is the wrong pic this is the console.

If you cannot paint then work with the yellow that you have ,a new fabric for the chairs,no table cloth let the table show itself ,or get a runner ,move some of your furniture and if you can paint that white stool black I think that it would look better with your lanterns

get some fabric or wallpaper and frame it just like in this idea

Basket like above are a great way to store things in and give that little extra touch to any shelf or book case. Paint the wine rack if you can . Also a rug if you can :)
