Please help my living room is a nightmare.

please help me give life to my living room. is too dark I wasn't thinking when I purchased these LR set a yr ago. I never like dark color furniture now I'm stuck with these set. Please help I would like to make the room more lighter , inviting and elegant I was thinking to get some nice pillows and area rug plus wall decor. Please help I dont know where to start.
