Thank you for asking! Yes, this is a built-in custom done by my builder MAC Custom Homes. The wood is poplar (less expensive and sturdy) The ladder was custom as well. It load bares over 300lbs. It is a very functional space and a wonderful addition to this boys room as a desk is underneath and serves as a great study nook. The white caps are where swing arm lights where placed later. What I would have done differently...is add a electrical outlet up top for tech-y stuff ie. iphone, laptop, alarm clock etc... All in for custom woodwork, labor, staining 2-3K.
