Well, I'm going to use your description - yes it looks dead, but I think it can be revived. Definitely needs color. Do I see a dining room next to the LR. If it has the the same dilemma, do you want help for that room, too? Could you post pictures of the DR.

Everything is dark (furniture) or very light (walls) with few mid tones. I think the wall colour does nothing for the dark warm furniture, I would use a cool greyish/olive to complement the wood. I would out a pale rug on the floor and simple slubby linen curtains, then add some accent colour.
