I personally hate LED lighting-it gives me headaches. I've been buying all the regular lightbulbs I can find because those don't bother me and they're being phased out.
I honestly don't know much about alternatives to LED lights so I hope someone will chime in here!

I'm in the middle of a major remodel myself and about 6 months ago I had my electrician put in 4" CREE led recessed lights and I LOVE THEM! I purchased the soft white color temperature for a warmer tone and it's perfect. It's a little pricey upfront but so worth it in the long run. I already see a huge difference on my electric bill. I would highly recommend putting them all on dimmers because the brightest setting is bright. It's nice to have the control too. Bottom line: go with the LEDs. They are great.
