What is the true color of sofa - it looks like a pinky beige on my monitor. Also, can you show us a full picture of the sofa to determine whether that table works with it or not? Thanks.

Alexandra - any color will go with the neutral sofa - did you still want to go with navy or do you want other suggestions. Also, if you go with a striped rug, it will limit the amount and types of prints you bring into the room (eg: accent pillows, fabric on bench etc.)

So, here are some things that have already been mentioned. This would be a nice way to go in this small room.

Ward Designs posted a tone-on-tone navy rug that would be nice - the only draw back with a solid would be that it would not include other colors you could use throughout the space.
A multi color stripe would give you this option. Of course another large piece, artwork, would also serve this purpose [finding colors to use].

As far as other prints combined with a stripe rug, in artwork, accent pillows, etc., there are ways to coordinate these elements. Change the scale of the stripe or choose an organic print - florals,, curvy images. Other wall décor could be used too - mirrors, metal wall art, black/white portraits or prints, architectural fragments, etc.

Just wanted to take some time and appreciate all the help. It has helped me a lot to try to focus in what I want to accomplish with this room.

The sofa is a sandy color, here is the picture. I will still love to use the navy color for the bench & lamp & now I just need to find a good coffee table & area rug. I was also thinking of this grey or slate accent chair from target, what do you think?

These rugs I love but not sure if they will combine with the other elements in the room

Here is a better coffee table I found, also remembering that the black/brown book shelve that will go in front of this living room with the TV area. Just don't want to make the room feel too heavy or crowed

If you have a taste for it, you could do natural fibre rugs.... will go well with your couch

Alexandra - The rugs you posted above would work great with your ottoman and lamp, but would be a bit of a disconnect with your beige sofa and grey chair. Your rug should be able to tie them together. The rugs above have a bold geometric look - and I think you need a rug that has a softer more subtle pattern, otherwise the rug will become the focal point of the room!
Look for something close to the rugs shown below:
(I especially like the 4th rug as it has grey, beige, white and brown in it. The brown will look good with the floor and will help tie in your console table). What do you think?

Yes I also love those 3 pieces however not sure on the ottoman as well & I am having a difficult time with the area rug.

The layout will be the sofa a side table with the blue lamp & shade, on the other side I thought about putting a simple floor lamp. Then by the window an bench/ottoman, to the opposite side an accent chair & the coffe table. In the wall in front I will have the TV center

Thank you for your input, I am not a big fan of heavy patterns however I will look into it, maybe there's one I will really love. Do you think a one color rug will look better? Since I already have a printed bench & lamp shade.

I am not so sure about the TV entertainment area with the bookshelves under in black & brown, I am not sure if that will make the room too heavy. I was thinking of adding accessories & books in each shelf.

It seems you are challenged by a patterned rug? If so, simply find a solid! They are a good investment because they can be used over and over in other rooms going forward. Save some of this shopping energy for other things - like artwork, and think of the rug as the glue that is keeping everything else unified.

A natural grass with a contrasting border or over-dyed woven fiber rug would calm everything down yet allow you to move in with your space completed. Remember also, mixing patterns isn't always easy but is learned with experience. Since this is early in your "home building career", take the easiest road so you can learn and enjoy the ride. Rugs are not nailed down to the floor permanently! There will always be something better out there - always! Also, your tastes evolve as you discover new or get tired of the old. For now, go with a simple rug and avoid making a costly mistake.

Your LR will look very nice with a solid rug. At least give it a try? Use your darling bench and lamp as your inspiration. Think about another color that you like and could use for accents - toss pillows

Hi Alexander regarding the chairs - I like the darker grey - it's a better contrast with the beige sofa. Is the grey shag the one from your Mom? It will work - is it the right size? If you go with the solid grey shag- the darker chair will look great.

I found a grey and beige trellis style (very muted pattern) that will go nicely with your furniture. (rug from Overstock.com). It's not a solid color but it's very subtle. I've posted it below with your chair, sofa and table - what do you think?

Would not recommend a dark blue rug. You are right, with the dark floor it might be too heavy. I do not remember your Mom's rug so a pix of that would be helpful.

The chair color is going to be decided by her donated rug. There should be an obvious difference in the colors of the sofa and new chair. Do not try to match them because you never will [unless they are pieces from a set], and "close" is not going to cut it. So, the darker gray would be best.

For heaven's sake, at least try it! Is that it with your end table and lamp? Looks just fine from this end. The texture is nice and the color is as about as neutral as you can get and this is perfect for starters.

Just as the chair should be obviously different from your sofa, the same holds true with the rug and chair. "Close" might work or not, but keep it in mind. You should have 3 different shades of gray together - very very light [well, cream actually] sofa, charcoal rug, and a chair that is in between the sofa and rug in value.

Since this donated rug has no pattern, you will want to bring some pattern into the room. The bench and lamp need companions - artwork, pillows, etc.

How did your Mom make out on Black Friday with her power shopping? Any luck?

No problems with that rug - give it a try. A thick shag rug will make the room look cozy and look great on the hardwood floor. Have you decided on the coffee table posted above? If so, may I suggest you get one with a white top - it will help tie in the ottoman and lamp. What are you thinking for a side table? Here are some chrome and glass side tables that will look great with your current choices. I like the idea of the nesting tables - they're quite versatile.

Which coffee table top would look best the darker wood or lighter?

I prefer the lighter one - it doesn't look as heavy as the darker one, plus the darker one looks too close to the rug color. (Still believe a white top would look best though). You need to bring in something substantial in white to go with the ottoman and lamp.
The table below is exactly like the one you like but with a white top - see how well it ties the white elements together? (Avail on Amazon, along with the side tables I posted earlier).

Like the dark reclaimed wood look coffee table, will match the rich textural value of your 3 seater & also might pick little colour from your floor....
Also feel having light grey armarm chair beige sofa with light grey pillows ( notice the pillow patterns have light grey) will look good & match the tonal value of your sofa.
Sorry but I feel you have too many shades going with white, blue of ottoman, lamp along with beige, grey, brown....
Can we reduce the neutrals to at least 3....

You had a thought of solid ottoman I am definitely for it....

It could be a neutral or your fav blue....which will then become accent colour for your space to

You could incorporate patterns in pillows, artwork, shelf accessories...

Sometimes it all becomes confusing, the best way is to start with what you like the most of all pieces & work around it...

Honestly? I find your lamp too small for your space and would like to see grey and navy cushions for the sofa to tie in your colors (instead of the yellow zigzag cushions which don't really go with anything). Otherwise, it looks great!! Just a bit of tweeking and some art and you are done!
The table? Is it this one? Will look awesome!

You need a larger lamp, and the shade and pillow patterns compete. Also, instead of loading up on little accessories, I suggest putting the budget toward one dynamic accessory: art.

Yes you are right, I need a larger lamp. The pillows are the ones that came with the sofa but I will be changing them to greys and blue pillows & yes the table I am buying is the one you attached in the post.

Have you thought of placing a floor lamp to the left of sofa (in corner) and the side table and lamp on the right side. I think something with a bit of height would fill in that corner nicely - it looks a little bare. Below is a simple floor lamp with a navy shade. The other is a taller lamp for your side table with a bit of bling that will work well with your chrome table legs The best way to balance the lamps is to buy ones with similar shades. Save the prints for your cushions and try to get some that incorporate all your colors - navy grey and light beige or white in an ikat or paisley print and even a stripe. Mixed patterns look great together as long as the colors work with each other.

You might consider a slim bookcase or a chest on the right side of the sofa,. That end of the space could use a "balancing" piece. A bookcase would give you a vertical line while a chest would give you a surface for a lamp, etc..

The cocktail table in the pix is nice and I see no need to change that out.

Once you find some artwork for over the sofa, you can look for a large accessory - shallow, colorful, ceramic bowl, chunky candle holders, well, you know. . . .

You have a nice start here! Just take it easy and be patient - working carefully will pay off in the end with fewer returns! Of course, trial and error is always involved and that is OK too!

Alexandra - were you thinking of putting a group of mirrors over the sofa? This could look good but - you have to consider what these mirrors would reflect? In your case it would be reflecting the tv console and bare wall. Therefore, I really think a large piece of art would look better over the sofa.
Don't forget, the space over your sofa will be your focal point - it should make a statement.

What type of art do you like? Abstract, landscapes, florals, still life, architectural, botanicals, poster art? Let us know and we can help you with some ideas.

My apologizes, being a housewife is not easy hahaha I am getting the hang of it. The little apartment is coming along but still need a lot of pieces to make it better.

I do agree with you, with the mirror walls. I love the idea but it would reflect anything, I have never bought any art but I think something abstract would look well.
