Look was inspired by this pier 1 room.
We are adding plantation shutters to the rooms adjoining and plan to get longer drapes.

It isn't a terrible start, but a larger difference in pattern sizes would look better. The wall colour is changing too, I hope?

I like the chair but do not like the curtains. They look better in the Pier I photo because the curtains are not closed. Too much wavy pattern when closed.

What kind of curtains with the rug? I want to get away from tone on tone or all one color rugs. I'm trying to step out of my comfort and add patterns. But now I'm thinking a plain drape. I have the bench seat in the pier 1 photo as well. The chairs and the bench are the same grey and I thought the mustard yellow in the drapes and the rug would add nice contrast.

Can we see the curtains pulled back? Will you always have the curtains closed?

Your plantation shutters will read as additional pattern, so take them into account when choosing the longer drapes. I think between the shutters, the rug, and the granite counters you have quite a lot going on and might consider a solid window treatment.

I would remove the chair pads with the bows.

The colors are off because it's night time and the lighting in that room is bad-we are getting a new light fixture as well. I'll post a picture with natural light tomorrow. I only will close them at night and once the screen porch is no longer being built they will likely stay open.

-get solid drape, any suggestions on color? And keep the end chairs and the rug? That's not too much grey with no contrast? I could do a solid chair and keep the rug and drape patterned but he bench is also solid...where is the balance between too much and not enough?
-oh and change the wall color-that will honestly be the last thing I can do

Well, I like your curtains. I would go for a bold patterned chair or a solid chair and bold rug. I like the rug you showed. :) I don't think chair pads are bad...I just think the bow is throwing it off from the look you're after, that's all. :)

Hi---I agree, the photos are reading different in color and in value. I must say, there is a lot of different patterns going on-and a slight color clash. Consider the one thing you cannot change (granite) as it is visible---not so sure about the wall color and how it relates to either area. Anyway, daylight pics will shed some light on the situation. Are there 2 wooden chairs opposite the bench? I know it's not typical but try moving the wood chairs to the ends of the table and the upholstered ones to the side opposite the bench. Then take a pic (tomorrow with drapes open). Did you buy the rug above? I like the curtains. I would look for a simpler rug with larger pattern like the one in your first pic. Let me know if you need help finding one.

Okay you guys are right. The curtains seem more like a taupe and the chair is silvery gray. It's still hard to see because it is not a bright day here.
So curtains have to go. The chairs and rug can go too if you guys think. I can just start over. It is going to be hard to change paint right now. It is sherwin Williams urban putty which is a warm neutral color. The house is brand new and we have many projects/rooms we are furnishing so I will paint last once I have it all figured out.
Can anyone help me with where to get a solid drape that might look okay.
The rug is returnable too.
I like the bench with the chair and the bench comes in other colors I just think the dark grey will be good with kids unless I got a leather one.
You can see a little bit of the family room rug here too. It's a grayish blue.
The blue leather sofa you see is being replaced by a dark chocolate brown sofa. Not returnable.
Everything else (beside dining table of course) can be taken back.

I can do the example rug in he pier 1 picture the reason I went with the one that has yellow in it is because my family rug is only 2 colors. It is technically another room but it is all open


I NEED A DESIGNER. That can send me some options and where I can buy. I prefer local places such as pier 1 that have a store I can return to so I do not have to pay to ship things back however I love Ballard design and I am open to web purchases if it's the right fit.

Hi---Urban Putty is a fabulous color and the new photos do help. I totally understand your dilemma and see why this is a bit of a struggle. The best thing for you to do when trying to work with same values of different colors, is to find something to use for inspiration. There's three I usually refer to---art, rug, and pillows. In the example below, I found a rug that incorporates your color palette (what is visible). I then found pillows with like hues. Notice how the colors relate to one another. If you can find accessories and such that have your color scheme, you could possibly get away with what you have. :) It's hard to tell online, but from what I see-it looks good.
I think KHAKI should be a common thread for a cohesive look... Hope this is helpful... Good Luck!
