Find yourself a rug and window coverings, and then decide on paint colors based on those.

I'm a huge fan of muted gray blues as they go nicely with medium tone woods. You would want to make sure that if you go with a gold that it works with the floor. Yellow can be tough to get right as the light in the room impacts how it looks so much, but a light butter yellow would look very nice as well.
