maybe try alternating the dressers, making a black and white offset pattern. Aside from the I would agree with Cynthia, putting in some basic shelving with a large art piece in the center. Good luck with the space.

I would keep the lines clean and not add shelves which need stuff = busy.

Cynthia, that certainly made sense to switch the middle drawers! Here is a photo. I replaced the lamps - they are not perfect, but better than the glass. I have this chunky mirror that I could put in the center of floating shelves. And Leelee, thank you, there is wall space to separate the dressers, which is another good option.

I was thinking she meant alternate the middle drawers--so switch the brown and white drawers just in the middle 4 drawers. You'd then have brown, white, brown on the far left section and moving right it would be white, brown, white then back to brown, white, brown etc. Worth a try?

Oh my gosh yes! I didn't realize that each dresser had six drawers for a total of twelve. Far better to treat each piece as having three PAIRS of drawers. Left dresser with white casing would have two brown top drawers, two white middle drawers, two brown bottom drawers. Right brown dresser would have two top white drawers, two middle brown drawers and two bottom white drawers. I should have done a picture, sorry!

I have the 3-drawer Malm dressers, gotten free off Craigslist. Don't know what the rest of your room aesthetics reflect, but here's what I did:
I sanded and painted the drawers Herman Miller Green (see image). I've also applied brass pulls and ebony stained 2x4s for the feet. My walls are already Lulworth Blue (Farrow & Ball colour). I have black framed art all along the wall (12 small frames with single botanical & insect subjects) with two lamps anchoring, similar to yours, but with solid bases and the glass has red coral inside. You could easily make fake coral with wire, glue, newspaper and coral spray paint... or fill with your lamps something else... or even paint the glass inside a translucent colour (+ rectangular shades) . The room is looking so much more "decorated". Our look is decidedly mid century Scandinavian in influence, as the Malm already depicts. The entire project is costing me about 40 bucks.

I'm wondering what it would look like if you switched the doors on the right side dresser. So looking across at them both you'd have a block of 3 brown drawers, 3 white, 3 white again, then the other 3 brown. It would make the brown mirror in the middle stand out. Right now it still seems like 2 dressers beside each other rather than a cohesive unit.

You would add a cool series of original art above it. Here are some ideas. happy to send more if you let me know what you specifically like.

Glass lamps is more gud, ceramic lamps under. Ceramic is tto heawy and seems wery dark.

I don't think it works to have those dressors in the same room. Especially not beside each other

I rearranged the drawers again Cynthia and Leelee! Better? Would it be worth putting some gold campaign hardware on the corners of the drawers? As you can see this large master bedroom needs art, the lamps are all wrong, and curtains from the previous owner need to be lengthened or replaced. Would love any suggestions.Thanks!

What a great space! I like the drawers alternated either way and the best part is that you are not wedded to any of them so you can change them out when the mood strikes you. Your room is all neutral and I feel like it needs some color. I'd add a fabric panel at the bottom of the curtains of some fabric that you love and raise them up. Also, I like the lamps you have in there now but the shades are too small. I think you need shades that are slightly wider than the base (which are large) and longer. You might consider spray painting the chunky bases in a color you love. Love your bed! All you would need is some pillows and art and it will be a lovely space.

You could also stack the dressers on top of each other? If you go that route be sure to attach them to each other so they are stable. I like your idea of adding campaign hardware too.

Or you could add feet to the dressers too? Sorry for coming at you with all of this!

Unfortunately, you run into the optical illusion problem - the dark set or individual drawers look larger than the other and they look lopsided. I would use the suggestion to put one bank of dark drawers at either end with a double bank of white in the centre. The mirror is not large enough to anchor the wall. If you want to go with just what you have, hang the mirror about 4 inches above the surface and move the lamps closer in. Or else add a smaller mirror or small print on each side of the mirror, keeping the bottoms even distance from the surface of the dressers. Also add a nice tray or low bowl to the vignette. If you want to keep the alternating colours, then make all four bottom drawers brown, the middle row white, the top right and left brown, and the centre two white in the top row. You'll avoid that optical illusion problem, I think.

Why not put one on Craigslist and then go get another that matches in the wood color. Bed seems far too traditional with current layout, IMO. You are lucky to have such a nice big room!

I love all the suggestions for the dresser...lots of options! There is still a lot of opportunity to decorate above the dressers. Why not use a pair of statement mirrors, with a great sculptural piece in between, and taller lamps? Maybe use the beefier lamps on the nightstands. Large artwork and decorative pillows on the bed...done!

I think that the mirror is not large enough. Go to Kirklands and buy a full length mirror and hang sideways. Or get two mirrors and center over each dresser. Or get a huge painting and center over both dressers. K's has some very reasonable prices. Also I think the room needs more color. Which of course art work would add. You can also accessorize with color on the dressers. New drapes [ a little fuller] could add color, and add matching pillow shams or bedspread. Love the size of the room and your four poster bed.

Saw the pics. Nothing is cohesive in that room. The bed is the overwhelmingly dominate feature and is traditional. Every piece of furniture is against the wall... under arrest... is what designers call it.

I'm not the boss of you... but since you asked...

You really (really) should add some texture, pattern and colour! The square slip covered chairs (3?), the too high side table, the carpet... the curtains are all pale and with heavy, canvas-looking, blocky texture. You might consider a pale, Spring green tone on the walls. You likely never use the seating area... why add a small sofa settee or chairs with Queen Ann lines/ legs, giving the space some airiness and curves. Add some pale green soft printed fabrics to the bed dressing and the upholstery. Dump the malm in favour of a couple of traditional tall boys (see images) with matching legs to the bed. Add pull backs to the drapes... to emit some nice daylight and add some rounded shapes to the sharp lines. Add lovely botanical art (larger pieces) on the walls to tie it all together.

The bedroom would look inviting and finished.
Why not Google your exact bed design and then go to Google images and see what others, especially decorators have chosen to accompany it?

I don't know where you are located... but I promise you that all- or most of this this can be achieved in thrift shops, Craigslist Free ads, cruising on garbage day... or dumpster diving!

I'm in the latter stages of finishing (all by my lonesome) the second floor of our three-level 100+ year old home. A daunting task indeed. You have no idea what it took out of me... but I am now pretty invincible as far as construction codes and design instincts. I have a ways to go but will be likely done with that by winters end and will proudly submit images so all can drool, praise, or insult me!

We now have a vacation rental on the top floor (now a penthouse). It is called ParkSlopePH. You can see our video online. It is the only part that is completely accomplished. I designed and installed the kitchen using old parts mixed with new. The cabinets are Ikea, the back splash is recycled, ceramic bricks, and the counter tops are butcher block. A portion of the proceeds go to our ongoing remodel budget, but we also assist those in the arts who need housing while visiting our area.

When you first began I thought you were doing your room in MCM but the dresser is really the only piece. It's looking a bit lonesome there with all the more traditional furniture.

If you really want to pull your room together get an antique dresser and find another place for the MCM pieces.

Your room could be stunning but not with those modern elements.

Add some art.

Thanks Leelee. I inherited a lot of traditional furniture, and I'm always trying to make it look more contemporary and interesting. The artwork will help with that.

I agree with alternating the drawers and you also may want to add a shelving unit in-between the two dressers, if space allows, which will take the emphasis off of the two contrasting dresser tops and allow some open storage for books, candles, baskets?
