Curtain colour

Hi,
Please help me decide the colour of curtain that will fit a black and white wall theme. Each colours are on opposite walls. The black wall is a granite wallpaper.
I bought "mink print " coloured curtain to install but it doesn't feel like that was a good choice. The lounge is open plan with dining.. Dining door and lounge bay window both have blinds installed, black sofas, black to and black dining table.

What a neat space. And with only black and white you have a blank canvas. Are you just wanting to soften the space a little by adding curtains? If so perhaps just a white or ivory linen (or something else with a bit of texture) sheer would be nice. I would mount them at or on the ceiling if you can. It looks like your windows are in little alcoves so whatever you hang is either going to block part of the window (another reason for a sheer) or you'll want to mount it outside the alcove so you could even have them go wall to wall.

But now that you have your nice space together you might want to pick an accent color to bring in just through a few accessories. One option would be a warm wood tone coffee table.

@msrmom, thanks for your comment. Yes I would love an accent in that tone-brown woody. The curtain pole has recently been installed and it is almost on the ceiling. My fear with using a sheer curtain is in its thickness. Because we have longer winters here I don't know if that is a good idea but sheer is what my heart wants but I am thinking it might not be practical. In dark days the lounge/dining is darker and I think it s due to the walls & blinds? Can any colour of curtain work? Solid curtains or multi-colours?

@tgirlforme A solid gray would look great in this room. It would really warm up the space but still keep it's modern appeal. Love all the suggestions! Whatever you decide will look beautiful, it's a great space.

Have you considered using red? It really pops with the colors you have. Love what you've done with your project!

tgirl4me With the sheers, treat them as regular curtains and keep them opened so they won't block any of your precious light.

@sarshouse14, red is my fav colour for curtains, although hubby is not keen on it, I think it'll blend greatly. I will keep pushing for it

Nice suggestions about lighting @msrmoms. How do you mean 'treat them as regular curtains?' Surely they are regular curtains right?
What do you think about patterned curtains? Will that be a no-no?

@tgirl4me Maybe a gray curtain on the outside with some patterned curtains in the middle. In my living room I have floor to ceiling beige curtains with a simple patterned beige and white curtain in the middle. It looks beautiful and is a nice contrast.

Yes, they are regular curtains. But because you mentioned loosing light during long winters I assumed that perhaps you thought, like I used to, that you keep sheers closed and its other curtains that stay opened. But if these are mounted wider than the windows (which if those are alcoves would mean on the outer wall) then you won't block any light.

@simplyrustichomes, thanks again. We finally decided on the red because there were fewer grey options available where I live.. Thanks for your suggestions, they really helped.

A heavy casement fabric that lets light through would make nice roman shades.
