What does my LR need?

I recently bought a home built in 1904. The LR is small but has nice character. We painted the walls and added pops of teal but I'm missing the "wow" factor. Is there too much dark wood? Would you make the focal ppint the wall behind the TV? Any advice is appreciated!

For me here is too much blue. The rug needs to be changed I think. May be have a glass center table to make it light. I think there is too much from dark furniture and mix of colors too in the furniture. Make everything same color and modern. May be put a flower vase for focal point.

I like the lamp the most and the light sofas are also ok.

the rug is too small....tho its lovely maybe you could use it in the open room off to the back...what is that space anyway. try some more white, and soft orange to pop. get a lightier colored larger rug...its only too much brown now b/c of the rug and floor combo. but a new coffee table that is less bulky would really help. i would have hung the curtains above the frame and gone a little fuller with them. or done roman shades instead. change the ceiling fan., and you really need some more art. the rug should go under the sofa front fee and extend past the chairs on the other side. the art behind the chair, can you stain or paint the frames? and then hang them side by side not staggered.

I suggest that you hang pleated drapery about 3 inches below the ceiling on decorative satin nickel rods. A silver leaf or large silver bowl on your coffee table with 3 balls of your choice would look nice. The silver will look nice with lamp. All you really need are accessories. Pictures on the walls, etc. Congrats on your house!

Thanks all! I have been considering layering a larger rug underneath. I just got the rug, pillows, and curtains. I also agree that a new coffee table would help- (maybe metal?) and new curtains rods. I could also paint one of the side tables.

The connecting room is the entryway. It has a built in storage bin, modern crystal chandelier and antique brass wall hooks.

I think your 2 pictures over the leather chair should be tighten up and run side by side;)

I would put a colorful glass bowl on the coffee table to bring in some cheer and light;)

I'm going to put the paintings side by side after a couple of people mentioned that. I wouldn't have thought to try that.

I ordered a bleached sisal rug, two more sets of curtain panels and white drum shades for the lamps. I'm shopping for a sunburst that will fit between the window and the corner cabinet. I'm hoping I can layer the current rug on top of the sisal because I do love it and it won't work anywhere else in the house.

I love the blue and chocolate combo. The dark furniture looks great. Just pop everything out. You can even get away with your coffee table. I like the yellow bowl idea along with a yellow vase somewhere else in the room or paintings with yellow in them. Everything sounds really good. Just remember to not hold back. Allow your mind to say, "hmm, that's different; I think I'll try it" a.k.a. don't be afraid to be creative.

After photos! Thanks to your help I'm happy with how the LR turned out. I added a bleached jute rug underneath the too small blue one, pops of yellow with a vase and art work, more curtain panels, coffee table globe with some shine and also put the paintings above the chair side by side. Eventually we'll change the coffee table, but there is no rush with a two and five year old in the house! Thank you all so much!

Thank you! The new shades are in the picture and I liked them so much I got the same ones for my mercury lamps in the master bedroom.
