Those Ipe Tiles are a great idea specially if there is almost no ventilation underneath! The slats in between each of our deck tiles are actually just about 1/4" so its about a common gap that most decks are built. Furniture typically won't get stuck since a 1/4" leg would be very thin. They are built with the same quality ipe but in a smaller and narrower planks that help keep it stable in applications with no ventilation.

Hope this has helped you out a bit! Here's a picture of the deck tiles in a residence in San Diego who's had it for about 2 years now. The Deck was re-oiled not too long before the picture was taken.

Thanks for the comments and photo! I appreciate it very much. What about the space between tile? Why are there two sizes: 20" x 20" and 24' x 24"? What determines when to use one or the other?

Also as the tile corner sits on the tile connector, the connector will sit on a TPO membrane covered roof. Should the tile connector have TPO membrane installed on the bottom side that will touch the TPO membrane (so that it's TPO to TPO)? I wonder if the tile connector will dent the TPO membrane due to the weight of the tiles as well as any furniture or planters that would be on the tiles. Would this eventually tear the TPO and cause a leak?

Are any of your customers willing to talk to a customer propect?

To answer for first question there is no ventilation requirement. These tiles were made because a lot of customers were looking for a quick way to do a rooftop or concrete patio. So the tiles are able to go right on top of these areas without ventilation.

As far as your TPO membrane question that's a little more difficult because it depends on the manufacturer and how they intended the membrane to be used. Unfortunately it may be a question that your TPO membrane manufacturer would be more knowledgeable at answering. Also contacting the manufacturers of the deck tile connectors DeckWise and asking what type of plastic the connectors are made from would help. This way, the TPO manufacturers would understand whats going to be placed directly on the membrane.

@at advantage lumber. I ordered a sample pack a while back and am looking to start a project as soon as winter goes away hope to start deck late February. I have done a lot of research about IPE and would like some more information that is contractor based bs home owner info.
