You will need to consult the flooring producter FIRST. I would choose the engineered floor options FIRST and then investigate each one for radiant in-floor heating options. Many of us only allow hydronic (water/oil/gel) heating with our flooring. We do NOT like electric...unless it is well encased in plenty of cement.

Electric has a history of over heating which has caused issues with wood based flooring in the past. My suggestion: choose your floor, then decide if radiant in-floor heat works with the floor.

Engineered hardwoods do well to tranfer heat...wood is an insulator that can transmit heat...especially if it is "thinner" (like 3/8" - 1/2" thick). I've heard many clients who rave about radiant heat under engineered wood...but you must check out the "allowances" for the flooring you choose.

Radiant in-floor heat is limiting as to which floor you get to work with...now and in the future. The most expensive radiant heating = hydronic...it also has the lowest level of "limitations" for flooring choices...almost anything is allowed to go down over hydronic. Electric is the most limiting...but it can be the cheapest to install.
