Help! Master bedroom needs design ideas.

Our Master bedroom is long and narrow. I think it may have been two separate room in the past. How can I connect these spaces and make use of all the space. And what to do with these weird shelves. We have tried the bed in other places, (i.e. bw the shelves) but this is the only way it fits.

Because the space is limited I think this is the best layout. The other other area could be purposed for the sitting area of the room and nothing is wrong with that. As for the shelves I also think they are fine unless you would consider the actual shelves be glass and then display some nice pieces. What I find out of place is the chair that is on the side of the dresser.
