I really like the stone you added on the existing house to tie into the new accessory garage. Are you willing or interested in replacing any of the existing front windows? I see that you opted for a double hung on the new building while the existing house has all casement windows. I suggest you try searching for "shingle style homes". That will lead you to many images of cedar clad homes that have been painted. Aside from a natural, you may easily work with a tinted stain to achieve a weathered grey, blue, or go with a color as you're suggesting.
Mostly, I suggest you determine if you're looking to make the home more contemporary (Zipper house of Brunstrom Residence pictured above) or traditional (Woodlawn Residence pictured above).
