Help with window

Please help. Huge window is 135"x65. Baseboard underneath. This is one huge living/dining room open concept. I was planning on putting wood blinds on other windows and drapes on this window....but I just notice baseboard.

Looking at the view outside, I see no compelling need for privacy. I'd just leave it as is. You don't want to cover the baseboard heat at any windows. Look into fabric roman shades at the other windows and a matching faux roman at this window. View is your secondary focal point. To draw attention to the primary one - the FP - I'd want to beef up that mantel. You can probably have a new one mounted right over it.

Have you considered other types of shades? With the beautiful ceiling and trim work I'd think about some other material for your shades. Shades are available in sheer and semi sheer fabrics from several manufacturers. There are pleated shades which might work but, I'm thinking of the newer versions available. You also could find a fabric you like and have Romans made. The idea is that you'd have the softer look you get with drapery, and your base boards would no longer be a factor. This kind of treatment can bring in color and pattern or remain neutral. With your ceilings I think a Linen would be awesome.

Thank you all. We have not moved into house yet. I'm sure we will do something with mantel at some point.

I was thinking of roman shades. I believe I would have to split this window up and put 3 shades in.

Why cover such large windows with that beautiful view. If you are concerned about privacy, many hardware stores sell a film that not only provide privacy but make the window more energy efficient (sorta like window tint without the darkness for your home). I agree with the comment above about the fireplace. Such a large room needs a little more drama; rock the fireplace floor to ceiling and expand the hearth. Bring the outside in with textures and colors. Also, if you really want window treatments, drapes, but only on the very outer part of the window, floor to ceiling. Enjoy your new place!

Its an amazing view that I will have open all day. But we need to be able to close at night for privacy.

Agree, you dont have to cover those windows, but you may want something on them at night and in winter just for a bit of added warmth. Roman shades is good idea. Post before after photos when you move in and are settled. Interested to see what you do with this lovely home.

Like the roman shades, or anything that draws the eye up away from the baseboard heat. Using a pattern vs. a solid material could help, too. Gorgeous home!
