Nice wood floor...interesting bumpout - what is it?
If you painted a neutral mural// stenciling would that impact lighting choice? Do you like lampshade look? or modern crystal chandelier?

I'm no light expert but maybe recess lighting in the ceiling. Add a dimmer for special occasions :)

Also so it's not to blank (obviously) add some nice paintings on the wall

what color are couches? If dark would you like to brighten? add bling?

nice dining chair, where did you get it?

we did recessed lighting with a dimmer.. not too crazy about the lampshade look.. the bump out I believe is because of the sprinkler system, not 100% sure.. once we move in I want to get a nice piece to hang on that wall.. thanks, the diningroom set is from raymour and flanigan..the couches are a dark brown color

Try turning the table the other direction.

There are a lot of ways to approach lighting your dining space depending on your budget. A contemporary approach from Sonneman A Way of Light has some looks that will work with your space that are not too expensive. If you'd like to put some color you can swirl a bendable rail track into a circle and hang 3 or 5 handblown glass pendants at different heights - for this option take a look at Bruck or Tech lighting.

This space will look best with a rectangular chandelier.
You can choose hanging lights or pendants light that will end 5.5' from the floor.

Zettel's chandelier would be cool. (Google Image search it, if unfamiliar.) I concur with everdebz: Can you get an artist (or if you can it yourself) to paint an abstract mural on that bumpout wall? That would be a greatway of turning an unusual/unwanted item into a cool, covetable feature.

Say you fell in love with a particular look, art or otherwise, it might affect your lighting choice. If you liked this for example you might want to echo the roundness in lighting. You could paint the outer shape in this blue-ish.
another option to hangable art - these trees on bumpout and outer square-ish a green, but if it blends with living area...!!! and use warm metal.

I'd love this chandelier with your dining set and I also think the color of it will match your couch
