I'm considering buying the same one! Did you get it?

The sub zero model that is! After reading here I will not buy the monogram.

I bought the sub zero 36" French door with internal water dispenser in April 2016 and haven't had any issues so far. It looks great and if there was a complaint from me it would be that it doesn't keep food fresh longer than other refrigerators we've had and if it does it is minimal, not weeks like some have said. Ice maker works perfect and water dispenser has been great also.

I have a GE Monogram 36" (Custom Panel) Refrigerator with a bottom freezer. It had been selected by the previous owner of my home. Love the look, the interior storage and the roomy drawer-style freezer. Love that it matches my cabinets. Literally two weeks after the warrantee expired, it failed. $1200 for the fix. The GE repair guy was incredibly nasty and got into a fight with the president of our co-op board over parking. He was screaming profanities. I ended up calling the president's office at GE (this guy threatened 3 people here) and the secretary accused me of lying! I've had it fixed two or three more times by Appliance Doctor - $400 here, $300 there and the repairman said, when I asked him about the mold growing on the seals around doors that GE is widely known for the mold issue. Says every GE he's seen has mold. There is rust in the freezer, and it's configured in a way that I cannot get in there to clean it. It's been making weird noises again and I think it's time to buy a new refrigerator.

This one fits exactly into my beautiful custom cabinets and I want another one with wood door panels. In order to have it fit perfectly, I'm wondering if it MUST be a Monogram? I saw some comments on the door opening clearance on other fridges. Would prefer not to spend more that I have to, and would prefer to stay away from GE all together. Hate the mold. Any thoughts?

I've had a Sub Zero close to 19 years. No issues... Just don't forget to clean the coils as you should in any refrigerator! In our second home I bought something else. What a mistake. I can fit more in my Sub Zero. With the other refrige... I'm constantly moving things around... too many fancy drawers and pull downs... takes up valuable space. I also... can see what's in my Sub Zero a whole lot better!

I have had a Monogram 42" side by side with custom panels since August 2002. I have had a few service calls over the years, almost all for problems caused by the ice door wearing out and not snapping shut which allows warm air into the freezer causing melt/freeze problems. I think I had the coils cleaned once (maybe not) and it did crap out two years ago, but aside from replacing what was inside, it only cost me @$600 to repair. Given the fact that I don't do any maintenance and my family of 5 constantly uses the ice and water on the door (we live in FL), I am satisfied with it. The only complaint we have had is the interior space in the frig side due to the light running the length of the back right in the middle. I am currently shopping for another panel frig/freezer for our new beach condo and I think I will likely go with Monogram again. They have made a couple of interior design changes including LED lighting that is small and placed in the corners (eliminating the old bulky light) and the former 1/2 depth shelf on top of the produce drawer is now full depth and flat. I am hoping that an earlier comment about the return of Monogram manufacturing to the US is accurate and will bode well for me.

I am buying all new appliances for a kitchen reno. I just want to point out that experiences with brands from 5, even 2 years ago, are seldom valid. When it comes down to it, these days it seems most parts come out of the same factories for various brands. I have looked at, touched, and handled many new items. I actually may be ordering the Monogram for my induction cooktop (silver 36") - changing from gas - tough call for me; Monogram oven and speed oven; monogram custom panel fridge. Miele dishwasher (and washer and dryer). I have looked at a lot and I think this is it. I would love to hear from anyone who has purchased these in the past year.

I have Monogram wall ovens including the Advantium 120 speed oven for my upper. One of the selling points of the advantium was to use the speed function instead of just the oven or microwave function. There is a post cool down time with using this method but you can still use it heat other stuff in the mean time...just avoid touching the hot surfaces. I was expecting a gimmick, but It does work better than I expected. Definitely read the manual and included cooking suggestions as it's a fairly complex unit and there are several ways to prepare the same food in it. Keep in mind that you can't use all materials in non-microwave only modes. It includes trays and a guide to tell you what to use in what mode. It's common sense, but easy to forget since you have multiple modes at your fingertips. If you use it as your upper oven, note that being smaller than regular ovens it won't hold as much. the convenience of a microwave and oven in one was my main want. The lower oven is a typical convection oven. Looks fancy, decent features. In the end, I really like the pair. I can't comment on the cooktop as mine is gas, but good luck with the induction. I did consider it, but knew I wouldn't have any issues with the gas and went the simpler route. That and I really liked my old pots and pans.

We are trying to decide between GE monogram and sub zero 48" side by side refrigerator. My dealer tells me that GE moved assembly back to Louisville 2 years ago to same location as engineering and since then quality has improved. Would love to hear from someone who has purchased a GE in the past 2 years to hear your thoughts. Based on reviews on this site, I have not been able to commit to a GE (if we go with sub zero we lose free wine refrigerator plus additional cost of frig due to package incentives, about $3000!!! )

my recommendation is sub zero you can also look at liebherr and miele also good quality

Subzero refrigeration wins hands down in my book. My first SZ lasted for 27 years with maybe 3 service calls. I had crummy Whirlpool/GEs in my vacation home and they all broke within 3 years. When I redid my kitchen 3 years ago I went with Monogram ovens and rangetop, but a SZ fridge and a Bosch DW. LOVE the SZ it works perfectly and there's no noise/buzz. The Bosch DW is great, and the Monogram cooking appliances are no problem.

However, keep in mind that GE sold their appliance division to Haier, a Chinese company. Who knows how that will affect their products and service?? If I were buying again now, I probably wouldn't go with Monogram.

Like many others, I'm in the same boat. About to do a complete kitchen renovation and need at 48" panel ready with external water dispenser. From what I can tell, my only two options are Subzero and Monogram. The price difference appears to be about $3000, which is significant for me. I currently have a 20+ year Profile that I inherited when I bought this home. With the exception of one service call to fix the light in the freezer, I've had no problems. The service man told me to keep it forever because they don't make refrigerators like they used to. Unfortunately, with the renovation, I need a bigger refrigerator for my growing family. I would also love to hear recent reviews before I decide. Thanks so much in advance!

Sub Zero for sure. I have had two, the first 16 years sold the house without ever needing a repair. It was like new great refrigerator and worth every penny.

moved 2years ago got a second one with same results so far. if you have some time to shop, you can try and purchase a floor model for less. It will be new never used because it has a showroom mode that gets deactivated by calling the Sub Zero customer service after you install it. I saved about 30% off list price These refrigerators are a lifetime investment

Maintenance is simple, just vacume the motor on top every 2 months and change water filter canister and humidity control cartridge as required

We have a GE Monogram side by side-5 yr+ counter depth (modelZFSB25DX) love the design BUT since the warranty expired-nothing but problems. Cannot maintain an even temp. Temps fluctuates constantly. 3 repairmen and almost $600 later--problem still exists. If/when I give up will look at a Sub Zero.

This is a very old thread from 2014. But I can tell you I bought a Sub-Zero last March and love it. It is still in it's first year but I love the design and the performance. I'm not a gourmet. I put a box of opened, sliced mushrooms in the produce drawer a few days ago and they look great. I'm so glad I got the Sub-Zero and wish I had bought a bigger one. I have the side-by-side 36" refrigerator and 18" freezer. I had room to go with the bigger freezer and didn't. The 18" is too small for even a retired couple.

I see all the new comments on this thread because I commented in July of 2017. I purchased the items I indicated then (including the GE Monogram side by side, panel ready, ice and water in door, refrigerator). We love it and have had no problems. The only problem we have had with any of the items is the clock on the built-in convection oven was gaining a minute a day. They came out and replaced the control panel. The new clock is gaining about a minute every two months. Weird, a bit annoying, but not really a functional problem. I adore the induction cooktop. I had always had gas and was concerned about not having infinite control of the heat. This Monogram cooktop is amazing! Instant heat, complete control, easy cleanup, and the clean lines/look I wanted. I am more than happy with my miele dishwasher (almost always only use the express wash), the miele non-vented dryer and washer (I love the distilled water for my plants and fish tank - and no static in the winter!). I also love that they allowed me to have a folding counter above at a comfortable level. The speed oven looks great and I have used it as an oven, but it really is just a good looking microwave for us. It is built-in with the convection oven. I do love that it frees up counter space and I keep thinking I will use it more. The recipes that I have tried from the cookbook have turned out well, but I can intuitively do the same with my other oven.

I had SubZeros (36: all refrigerator and 36" all freezer) in my house. I bought the hype, and hated these boxes. Then, we had a house fire (no one injured) and I was very glad when the SubZeros were declared "totaled".

During the rebuild, I bought GE Monograms (36: all refrigerator and 36" all freezer) from Ferguson's in a package discount.

I also have a 30" 220VAC Advantium oven and a 1.4 meter French LaCanche range (gas top and electric ovens, one being convection). These are the two best appliances I have ever owned.

The separate refrigerator from the freezer accomplishes 99% of what "dual compressors/dual evaporators" in one box claim as benefits. The Monograms have magnetic door seals and the "nanotechnology" BS can be bought as a spray at AutoZone for about $15-30.

My Monograms are now 9 years old. The freezer probably needs a new defrost cycle timer, so I plan for a service call sometime in the fall. No hurry.

Never any food lost.

I would never own the brand plate called "SubZero" again.

I know this is an old post, but had to comment. 18 years on my 48” Sub Zero, no problems and still going strong. Damn I love that refrigerator.

Hoping for more current feedback, we found a panel-ready Monogram for about 4,000. Please share your experiences! We were ready to go with all Bosch, including a regular counter-depth frig. Thanks!

I have a Bosch fully integrated panel ready refrigerator; icemaker in the interior. It's ~ 3 years old. We've never used the icemaker because of moving water lines/steel beam issues (long story) so I have a KitchenAid drawer freezer/icemaker. No more kids at home and neither one of us uses ice so easy decision.

I had a SubZero for 11 years (sold the house) and never one teensy issue. Panel ready with ice/water in the door.

No problems with the Bosch at all, so far, kow, other than some whining from the 3(?) motors but not constant whining. It does say "change filter;" maybe I should do that, lol.

I would always, always get a SubZero if I could. This last remodel was done on a tighter budget than my previous builds and redos.

Oh, and the KitchenAid quit making ice a long time ago, about 3 days out of warranty, of course. We turned off the water to it and just ignore it.

I think the two are like comparing apples and oranges.

I've had both Monogram and Sub Zero. Monogram is going on 20 yrs and the only issue I've had with it showed up in the last 6 months with a small Freon leak. I will be doing a kitchen remodel and will replace with either with Monogram or Sub Zero again as I feel either will give me more yrs of operation, better freshness and less repairs down the road. Part of my decision will come down to interior configuration. Which is something you may want to consider. Also, does the cost of the panel come into consideration for you.

We are considering panel and handle costs. Another part of our issue is our kitchen height is only 75 inches - it cannot be raised. :( . Husband thinks the taller refrigerator will work visually, I am not so sure...

6' ceiling ?? A typo ?? The SubZero and Bosch and almost all others are 84" tall.

I didn't buy handles from M9nogram. I ordered custom handles. it is important to make sure they are made for fridges, but there are options. I have black ones that look like bamboo for all the long handles in my kitchen. The rest have black knobs.

tsjmjh - Thanks for catching that - I did mean 85. A built in would just fit. We had decided on a standard Bosch counter depth, but started reconsidering again yesterday.

I don't think anything is as well built as is it was 20 years ago, it is a matter of money and making the best use of our space. Would love to see photos of your kitchen. Do you still like your Advantium? We are going with an induction cooktop and double wall ovens. Considering a smart oven or traditional microwave...

Here are a couple

To be honest, we generally use it as a microwave. I do like the way it looks. It is awkward to get your arms to the back to wipe out (unless you are taller than me or have longer arms). I tried some recipes from the cookbook that comes with it. They are quick and turned out well, but I usually cook without recipes, and it is not intuitive.

After years of owning GE refrigerators we recently got a Subzero ( after many years of wishing for one ). Love the looks and the space it offers. For the first time ever, the fresh cilantro bunches we buy have stayed fresh for over 4 weeks. I have noticed that other vegetables are staying fresh longer than in the GE.

The downsides of the Subzero - Design deficiencies

For such an expensive machine, I am disappointed that it does not make clear ice cubes.

The ice dispenser does not have a crushed ice option. The water dispenser in the door is also very basic as compared to a GE.

The drain pan below the water dispenser is unnecessarily complicated. There is a ridged part and a steel part that come out. And there is another part beneath both those that water pools under. It is not possible to wipe that one dry. So I am worried about moisture lingering there and growing things that I don't want.

Problems ( I hope) with our unit - less than a month after installation the control panel display went bust - showing only top half of the letter and numbers lit. Thankfully it is under warranty and will be replaced. But not what I expected from an expensive fridge.

The water dispenser randomly operates in a mode where water comes down almost like a shower , not in a straight single stream.

Plan on redoing the my kitchen and looking at GE Monogram 48" side by side with ice maker in freezer door. Have seen allot of negative comments about GE Monogram on this

page. Has anything change in the way of quality for these refrigerators ? Should I look and

consider a Sub Zero instead? Thanks

Same! Consider both, but the 36" W options.

Do not buy a Monogram- we had ours for 2 weeks and it just stopped working- we are still waiting for a replacement 6 months later. We are considering legal action because of the terrible customer service. We paid in full for the unit yet here we are without a working unit. Something had changed with GE Monogram- they used to have great customer service- not the case any more- run to another company- GE does not care about their customers

Lynell- sorry to hear about your problem. I'm not standing up for Monogram or any other appliance manufacturer but from threads I've read on Houzz lately, getting appliances (and I'm guessing parts) has been a nightmare as the supply chain was and is affected by COVID. I read lately of people that have appliances on order since last July and every delivery date they get, it gets moved further out. I'm guessing that the CS people in the appliance sector are just tired of trying to be helpful when they know their hands are tied right now and are probably getting complaints almost 24/7. I know this doesn't make your situation better but just wanted those reading this thread that what is going on now, hopefully won't be the way it will be in the future when we get back to "normal." Also, just wondering why the appliance store isn't involved in this?

I can definitely understand and sympathize with Covid related delays - but this is a whole different ball game. We have been lied to about delivery and arrival of our unit that was paid in full. We keep getting a run around to the point where our next move is legal action. We can not get a straight answer from GE and have been inconvenienced long enough - we paid in August 2020-And here we are February 2021 and we still don’t have a refrigerator- this is no way to run a business. When we ask to speak with a supervisor/superior we are told that they can’t give us that information???? Truth matters

I am no sure if you know but under the UCC you can dispute the charge on your credit card if you paid with one for warranty. If you have had it less than 90 days, good luck. I would recommend Sub-Zero, Miele, Liebherr if you want or need fully integrated.

Lynell, Girl we need to talk. I have had my GE Monogram for 3 years (purchased in Dec 2017 and built our custom cabinets around it) and have had nothing but problems with it since it went out of warranty only a couple of months after the warranty expired. It has been endless. We have had more than 10 repairs scheduled over the last two years and all of them are the same issue. The repairman shows up and orders a bunch of parts (which this latest go around with GE, take forever to find supposedly because of Covid). I get told it's a two man job for only one repairman to show. I've lost tons of food. Wake up to water all over my floor from where the ice has all melted because it has failed once again. I have been in an on going battle with them...3 months without a refrigerator in my kitchen. Fortunately I have one in my garage, so up and down the stairs into my garage to grab what I need to make a meal. It is insanity. I am livid. They are telling me that I can get a new one, discounted...because of my loyalty. UGH...are you kidding me? I am beyond mad. It is crazy to me that a company would not stand behind its name and do the right thing. Getting my lawyer involved. RUN don't walk, RUN from GE Monogram Refrigerators.

Im so sorry to hear your story and boy am I familiar with it. I’m wondering how you go about starting a class action suit. I believe it’s a design flaw when a brand new refrigerator stops working after 2-3 weeks. Something is currently very wrong with what used to be a great company - family and friends can’t believe what we’ve been put through- wishing you good luck-with this company you’re going to need it. They didn’t seem to care when we were at the point of legal action- just unbelievably unresponsive. For an alleged high end company, they do not care about customer service or satisfaction- I will never buy another GE product.

Lynell, I think a class action lawsuit would be a good course. Not sure how to go down that road but will speak with my lawyer friend. I do know that GE is in a terrible financial situation. Even still, you would think they would figure out this flaw and get this product back on track.

Would never buy monogram. Bad experiences. The GE repair guy explained to us that the monogram fridge we have which is about 12 years sold is actually at or past it’s expected life and we should be ready to replace. It went out today and has been quirky for a long time. By the way, we’ve gone through two monogram microwaves and the GE guy said they’re just not built to last very long, sorry :(

Well GE finally did the right thing and replaced our refrigerator with a completely new one at no cost to us. I am so very thankful and so far so good. It only took 4 months of bugging and pestering to get the right person to hear my pleas. She took the time to look back at our account to see the numerous service calls and parts ordered...all the same issue noted in our account. I probably will never buy GE again but was a bit stuck between a rock and a hard place as our cabinetry had all been custom built around the appliance.

We have the same issue- our cabinets were custom built to accommodate the GE monogram. We finally got a new refrigerator as well but it was pure hell dealing with GE - we were without a working for almost 7 months- horrible customer service or lack there of

Monogram refrigerator is horrible! I would definitely avoid it. #1 it is very loud. GE repair explained that unlike the subzero these units have one pump so it has to work harder to keep the refrigerator and the freezer cold, this makes it pump louder and more frequently. #2 fresh vegetables turn to mush very quickly. Doesn't matter if they are in the drawer or out in the main area. #3 temperature is very uneven throughout the main area. We keep it at 37 as directed by monogram had a can of Coke explode making a complete mess of everything. Customer service said just don't keep cans in the back it can get colder there. #4 cheaply made plastic parts, at one point it was so loud they diagnosed the fan was out of balance. they replaced it and just to see the parts is crazy -- the flimsiest piece of plastic you've seen $5 Ice drawer over flows and ice falls in the back under the drawer and is very difficult to get out. The design is terrible of the ice unit. They told me just turn it off manually before it gets too full. I very much wish I didn't buy this.

Sub Zero, hands down better. Have a 14 year old Sub Zero at home and a GE Monogram built in at our second home. Sub Zero is flawless except for a self induced gasket seal which required replacement by a professional. The GE is a POS and only 3 years old. Its an awful $10,000 mistake to buy a high end GE appliiance. My service guy, an independent, said the same thing about his constant repairing of the GE units.

Buy the SubZero! Our GE Monogram Fridge rusted on the back side and grew mold all over the left side (see the photos). GE Monogram has the absolute worst customer service imaginable. They misdiagnosed the problem, charged us for a part we didn't need, and promised there was no mold. You can see the photos for yourself. GE put our family's health at risk and then refused to refund us even $350 for the part they (incorrectly) said would fix the problem. After that disaster, we bought a SubZero and love it.
