Chic Modern Bedroom - Help Needed

Houzzers,

My girlfriend and I have spent the last month or so updating her bedroom. Before our renovations, it was complete with burgundy carpet, tan walls, and thin dark trim.

What we've done so far:
Installed hardwood
Painted walls
Added new trim to window
Bought faux wood blinds for window
Make upholstered headboard
Painted and stained the chest
Made the art
New trim
New hardware for closet doors

What we're out to accomplish:
Curtains
Rug
Art/Item for over bed

The pictures I have are not the best quality, as we were trying to capture the art we had just made. Nonetheless, I am looking for help with the curtains. I would like to surprise her with a set of curtain panels, but I'm lost in terms of fabric. I haven't the slightest clue.

She really likes a chic modern feel. I will post some pictures of her room - most were taken for other purposes than displaying on the Internet, though.

If any of you dear people have advice, this boyfriend would certainly appreciate it!

Needing advice on curtains, additional art, etc.

I'm attaching a picture of curtains I like, but I'm not sure they fit into her style.

Nope, those curtains would be too traditional because the fabric is a damask. You want something in a large graphic in the white and warm gray or chocolate tones I see in the sheets and wall and headboard. Look at West Elm, don't buy sheers, consider grommet top.

As for art, try something abstract, with just a touch of the orange / coral found on her throw. Look at art.com and search for canvases in a panorama style for over the headboard.

I had never heard of West Elm before, but I looked into what they have. I was really impressed.

What do you think about this print? Does it work for chic modern?

As for length, do I do 6" above window frame, or would floor to ceiling be better?

Ok one you posted. You have blinds, but if you're like me you might add blackout curtains for added peace and quiet and dark room for sleep [these are rated well]:

jsreams...You're doing a great job! The light grey curtains with the geometric pattern are a nice choice. I would recommend moving the two pieces of art closer together or adding a third piece of art in the middle to create more balance. They're interesting pieces, but you might want to consider using vintage art that's a bit bolder and more dramatic.

You and your girlfriend have created a very cool room! Here's a couple of ideas that would add some finishing touches to it!

Thank you for the comments! Yes, the prints should be closer together, but the one on the right is hiding a poorly-placed breaker box. I've been looking for something to put in the middle. What do you think about a floating white shelf? I've seen a few that could pass for modern, but it's hard - as most of them look like traditional crown moulding pieces.

As for the prints, we actually made those this summer. While visiting the Biltmore House, we stopped by this awesome shop called the Antique Barn. We scored the prints for $10, and both frames for $5 at a local flea market. The frames were black, so we opted for spray painting them.

Hi jsreams....if you decide to do a floating shelf, it should be white to match the frames. Also, when choosing something to put on it, keep it simple so the wall doesn't look cluttered, as that will detract from the modern aesthetic you're after. I'd be inclined to put another piece of vintage art there...something in keeping with vintage cameras, but used to create a simple, bold centerpiece like the photos below.

Update: a white floating shelf has been ordered. I opted for the 24", as the space between the pictures is about 38". I had to choose between 12", 24", and 36". Will post better pictures when it is hung. Still shopping around for curtains and other items!

Thank you for all the help so far! In the last week or so, we have purchased curtains, a rug, and a bedside table. Do all of these fit the style we're going on? We have ordered a 24" floating shelf for between the prints - just waiting for it to come in. Pictures of the table and curtains attached

Add another bedside table, lamp and rug on the other side of the bed. Pull the bed away from the side wall so someone can walk around it.

We have added DIY magazine clipping art above the bed, as well as a shelf between the two prints. One of the walls is still blank - does it need anything? If so, what? Thank you for all of the help!
