"Are wood stove fire place inserts still in style?"

We have a rather large gray stone fireplace in our family room with white built ins on each side. When we first moved in and used our fireplace the stone began to darken. I'm considering putting in a wood stove fireplace insert which will eliminate this problem and offer safety for children and pets. Are these in style anymore? Would a decorator agree or disagree with having a wood stove fireplace insert?

Whether or not they are in style, they can be more efficient than a regular hearth. There are many styles to suit any particular taste, so I would recommend going to a fireplace showroom and seeing what is available. If you have gas, you might even consider converting to a gas insert for convenience. Regardless of fuel, you'll be able to find an insert that burns and heats more efficiently.
