Countertop experiment.

I have a house built in 1957 - bought in original condition (remember push button stoves?). I've allowed myself to experiment with projects and I've been thrilled with the results on all of them.

This one...was more of a stretch. The great kitchen countertop experiment of 2014. Excuse the crapped up cabinets (those are next).

The countertops are either really cool or an experiment gone horribly wrong. I can't figure out which.

the back splash is really cool, the counter not so much they need to have an even surface. not practical really. but it could be just me... personally i would change the counter and leave the back splash.

All that texture on the countertop is going to be a nightmare to keep clean.

I hadn't considered keeping the backsplash and doing something with the different on the countertop. That's a great idea. On the cleaning - I'm replacing ceramic tile. I have a high threshold for nightmare.

I don't mind it, but it's hard to judge from a close up. I like to step back and judge.lol :) The color I like. A coating might work. I think a differing backsplash or counter would make it more interesting. But that's just me, I never like the granite up the backsplash either. Very creative, definitely cool color! Good luck! BTW, what were you planning for the cabinets?

I love the backsplash. Personally I would change the countertop to something that is smooth and compliments the backsplash. Good Luck!!!!!!

I agree that contrast is needed I think that as a backsplash would be awesome with a colored cement countertop ( another challenging but doable do it yourself project).

Not a fan. It's as bad as tile. Maybe worse, once it starts peeling.
