My general contractor placed our island hood to align with the edge of the countertop rather than with the edge of the cooktop. Hence, my husband, who is 6'1'' hits his head on the edge of the hood when he approaches the cooktop to cook. Are there any professional/technical guidelines as to how far from the edge of an island countertop an island hood should be placed? References will be much appreciated.
