Use two levels if there is enough room and for a more traditional kitchen.

I don't like 2 level counters I think they are wasting a great sized counter .

A quick note about our experience: We consistently design between 70-90 kitchens/year (for over 34 years) and have literally designed thousands of kitchens.....We also design full structural including below-grade foundation plans.....

We have 2 Chicagoland locations and a Michigan location which cover the Wisconsin to Indiana borders, N.W. Indiana and S.W. Michigan.....

Anyway, one level for sure, especially on a peninsula which faces into the D/R. You'll love the ability to just slide things across. Along with that, there are many people that don't like sitting on pub-height stools for any length of time.

All one height so you can use counter height stools. Also works great as a buffet when entertaining.

I prefer a taller peninsula with bar height chairs, if they would be in close proximity to the dining table and its chairs. I feel that there's not enough distinction between dining table height and counter height and it looks odd if they are close together. But that's my personal opinion.
