Chenille, microsuede or leather will hold up better than velvet and would make an interesting contrast with the sofa and chairs. Slate blue, slate gray, ice blue, turquoise, aqua, blue-violet, cornflower or periwinkle would look nice. Harlequin Arkona Rose or Kallianthi Rue Flower would also work. Carnation pink, orchid or thistle could work, but might be a better choice as throw pillows or included in art/photos. You could also get Marimekko fabric with either blue or gray as the dominant color (see below for some choices), which would coordinate and be a bit eclectic.

The blue and light gray sound wonderful. If you are looking for a bright contrast (which you'd probably need to repeat in accents in a few places), what about a terra cotta orange? I always love how oranges and blues look together in oriental carpets. Look at the rug in the first photo and the pillows in the second:

So if I am understanding your post, your sofa is gray, the chairs are upholstered in the velvet (as shown) and there are buttons on the chairs in the same fabric as the gray in the sofa? You are looking for a fabric to upholster an ottoman which is to be used also as a coffee table? If this is correct, then I would decide on a color scheme that goes beyond the gray and blue. As others have said, you can infuse your pallatte with orange, yellow or raspberry or, or, or....So find a beautiful pattern in a scale that will fit your ottoman, making certain you have a full repeat of the pattern. When it comes to distributing color around the room along with other patterns, you can take your lead from your three pieces. Make certain that one of your color selections dominates and that your second color is even less than the dominant and the third color can be in small accents around your room.

Coral!

I LOVE the eclectic look, these chairs from Moda are amazing. I would take this frame idea for the base of your ottoman and then do a patchwork of fabrics in greys and blues and introduce something new like say lime green. I would then suggest using a rococo mirror and painting it that colour introduced, say lime green if that was it. A lime green glossy rococo mirror, gorgeous in that eclectic room! Do a leaner behind the sofa and then add a cushion to the sofa as well. A down filled one, with tassels.

It's all about color distribution and selecting one color that is dominant. You have wood floors. Do you anticipate having an area carpet for this room? Also, are there windows? If so, how many, what size are they, where are they located and how do you plan to address them. Is this a light or dark room? Is this a daytime or night time room? So to answer your question about the orange blending them together? No, but you can use any number of colors with the blue and gray. As I said before, it's all about distribution and percentages. Carlycc offered purple to stay on that one side of the color wheel. There are instances where I would even paint all walls in a deep purple, such as aubergine, but I would have be mindful of what direction I am moving and what my ultimate intention is for the room. If you answer some of the above questions you will have lots of good advice from some very talented people at Houzz.

HI -- You could cover the ottoman with a cow hide - they come in several colors - I like the ones that have a light grey and white coloring . Or you could cover the ottoman with a carpeting -- maybe a funky new shag or something ethnic with some of the colors others have suggested or I like a soft fresh green . Or a metallic faux leather, like maybe a silver ?

Chartreuse would look great, not too contrived but still harmonious with blue and gray.

Here are the answers:
1. Do you anticipate having an area carpet for this room? I could. It depends if the sofa area needs to be pulled together with a rug or not.
2. Also, are there windows? Yes there are 2 windows in front of the sofa (the room is rectangular)

2. If so, how many, what size are they, where are they located and how do you plan to address them: I think the 2 windows (dimensions 90 cm x 182 cm) will have roman blinds. Colours will be dictated by what is needed in the room (I.e. the main colour of the 2nd colour but I will see when I have the main pieces in the room)

3. Is this a light or dark room? It's a light room

4. Is this a daytime or night time room? It's a living room and we work during the day so I would say it's an evening room.

@ Susan Mills Design: I feel that lime is for a sunnier place... I live in London (UK) and here the general colour of the sky throughout the year is grey....

Would look great as a modern or transitional addition to the blue and gray palette.

That deep teal blue, with light gray and taupe would look over the top fantastic with coral as has been suggested. Actually teal blue and coral is a traditional color combination. Taupe and gray are neutrals so they would go with anything. I am including a little photo to show you the color I am suggesting.

Me again, not sure of your taste from the little that you have posted, but have you checked out Squint Limited, I believe they are out of London. The colorways of their fabrics are simply beautiful! Here is a room done in their fabrics. Sorry if this is way off base for you.

Autumn, I've read through my posts and I don't understand what upset you. The only time I mentioned yellow was in the same post with orange and raspberry, saying they could all be good choices.

You might like covering an ottoman with a Kilim rug. There are so many color combinations and you should have them there in abundance. I'm posting a picture of an ottoman just so you can get an idea of what you can do. There are not the exact colors you could have but I think you will get the idea. Hello from me again, it was more the idea of the fabrics being patched together with this type of frame and not the colour lime per say, although lime works just as well in London as here in Vancouver where the weather is pretty much the same :) I have lived in both places and know the grey you speak of. I would like to see you use a warm color since your colors are all cool. This will also give the pop you desire. I am attaching 3 rooms with warm color pops and 1 fabric from Lee Jofa that I believe will look great with your current colors, is eclectic, and is an indoor/outdoor fabric so it will withstand spills better than other fabrics since you also want to use the ottoman as a coffee table. Susan,it is 14.75 vertical 9.5 horizontal. It is the Imiri Leopard in pink from their outdoor skins, groundworks collection. It is heavy duty....33,000 double rubs. I am using it on a piece that will move from an elegant indoor room to a more casual and contemporary outdoor space in good weather. I think it is fun and elegant....a combination not easily found! It is available in 7 colors, but this I think would work the best with the colors in question, ne c'est pas?

Thank you Mint Design. I think the fabric is very fun, but for me I would not use this scale for an ottoman that bridges two solid fabrics of different colours. IMO I still think it needs big bold pattern to relate the two fabrics vc1234 has and to become the focal point that the ottoman can be. The interesting thing I am discovering though is that without many pictures to go by, we all visualize the space differently, perhaps based on work we have done previously with a similar space or furnishings, what I am imagining may be completly different than what you imagine. I love all the ideas and suggestions we all bring based on so many unique perspectives.

PS what size is the ottoman to be? Shape? In my mind it is not a small one as it will be used as a coffee table as well at foot stool. what does everyone else visualize?

Susan, for me the pattern and color are bold enough that the scale of the pattern can be small. I am imagining a fairly large ottoman if it will double as a coffee table and I am also imagining in its life as a coffee table there will be a sizable tray of some sort which would blot out much of a large scaled pattern. It is just a matter of personal taste and experience. None is us needs to agree. Most of us do not share the came vision which is a good thing as we bring so many different ideas to the table. Otherwise the decor magazines would be pretty boring!

For sophistication you could always replace the foam with a slab of granite or marble and add a dash of Hot Pink or Bright Purple either as candles, vases & flowers, or decorative pillows. It would WOW your colour scheme.

If looking for a bold color..a saffron, coral or deep orange would do the trick. Let the trims tie back in the colors of the sofa most trims that would go with this color will be the color of spices. It might have a Moroccan or near east feel but that sorta sounds what you are looking to end up at. JUST KEEP IT SIMPLE
