Chocolate pie

Home made tourtiere served with baked beans on Christmas eve. With my French Canadian background, it invokes memories of my childhood and happy to pass the tradition to my kids. Wishing everyone...a lovely Christmas.

I am not a cook at heart. I do make the annual batch of Christmas cookies that I grew up with. This year I made 2 batches, lol, bulking up to restart my New Year diet;) NO pictures of them, as they taste better than they look.

High proof eggnog. Heck,you can forget the eggnog.

Potato salad and sausages on Christmas Eve. I also love ginger bread and stollen for breakfast during the holiday season!

Any dessert will do:) We always made all kinds of sweets (no cookies,,never seen cookies before I moved to US)..usually layered sweets and cakes. Also sweet bread that we call 'cozonac' is really delicious

Forgot...if you're serving prime rib, try Ina Garten's Spinach Gratin...just delicious! Also, her Apple Crostata is wonderful...whether in large (photo #1) or mini version (#2).

I can't think of any dish in particular that I anticipate eating only once a year.

My favorite dish is a hand thrown low pottery bowl about 18" in diameter with a light brown glaze.

I'm brave enough to admit this...fruitcake! (real, homemade fruitcake - not that weird stuff with the dayglo candied bits in it)

Mrs. River has her own baking business. She makes a good bit of homemade fruit cake this time of year.

It does take one good fruitcake to know another;)))))))))))))))))))))))

Panettone. Don't know how to make it. Can't afford to buy it. And it's Everywhere! Whimper. Also Panforte. Ditto and ditto, but at least it's not everywhere.

Never mind, mince pies will do. Stollen also absurdly expensive and I haven't come across a good one here since they became popular. Too sweet, much, much, too sweet.

Nothing wrong with leftover rich Christmas pudding sliced, fried and served with vanilla ice cream.

Really? My mother's trifle. There will never be another like it.

Chloebud, thank you for finalizing my Christmas Day menu! We are also doing prime rib this year, as there will only be five of us. My husband's favorite veg is spinach, so he will love this. I was thinking I would miss cranberries so the upside down cranberry cake is brilliant! Would you share the recipe or source?

Obviously turkey!! That's what the kids come home for...and all the trimmings, which is a long changeable list!! Many desserts, but our tradition is homemade butterhorns (that my Mom taught me to make) on Christmas morn! Accompanying a brunch that lasts pretty much all afternoon!

I love to make homemade carmels, prime rib for Christmas dinner and lefsa.

To Mark Bischak: are you on a diet? You must be easy to cook for- just an empty bowl on the table!

Love Under Home Construction, I'm Norwegian and bet your lefse is good stuff! I've never made it myself. My grandmother used to make julekage at Christmas. I never could quite understand its appeal.

I always bake cookies. My family really looks forward to small nut rolls, magic cookie bars, cream wafers, Oreo balls, chocolate fudge, and fudge puddles - a new recipe for me this year- that is a peanut butter cookie with a gooey fudged center. For Christmas Day we will have a chocolate pudding dessert that my whole family loves!!

I'm in Australia where it is hot for Christmas. I make a three layer ice-cream cassata which goes down a treat.

Shephards pie. Yum, yum, yum. KFC now has something similar to it, so now it is easier to make than ever :))

I'm in New Zealand, hot here at Xmas, wouldn't be many of us that wouldn't have Pavlova for dessert, it was invented here and so light and delicious, the result is in the beating. Yum

I look forward to eating Ginettes during the holidays. Our best friend makes the best ones because they are very light and she does not use a lot of anisette. We were invited over for lunch yesterday and had ginettes for dessert......sooooo delicious !

I am in New Zealand also, I love pumpkin pie! They sell the Libby's 100% pure pumpkin cans here, so I make it as a special treat for Halloween and Christmas, as we don't celebrate Thanksgiving here (It sounds like such fun though)!

I love fruitcake! Go ahead and throw stones at me, I'll eat it anyway. But it must be my own recipe, not that gooey gunky stuff they sell in the stores - the gift that keeps on giving...and giving.

Christmas dinner (rib roast, baked potatoes with all the fixings, and a green salad) always ends with coffee and an English berry triffle. Yummy, beautiful, and simple -- in a trifle dish I layer Chambord, cut-up store-bought pound cake, raspberry preserves, Byrds custard, fresh berries (usually raspberries and/or strawberries), and whipped cream.

I am looking forward to pumpkin pie. The recipe I use from Richard Sax is especially good, and has rum in it. So good...

I make a traditional roast leg of lamb stuff with garlic and rosemary, and all the veggies favourites such as brussel sprouts, garden peas, mash potatoes, baby carrots and onion gravy. Then, dessert would be French apple pie/pudding served with hot custard.

Now I am hungry!
