glass tile directly over counter or over solid surface backsplash

We are planning to change our current laminate to a solid surface counter. We want a glass tile backsplash but we are disagreeing about whether we should add a 2" solid surface backsplash below it.. can anyone help me with what is the best option? it would be a set on backsplash. structurally, asthetically etc. here are some pics of the choices. the subway tile is for a top row of yhe backsplash. thanks!!!!

I would tile straight up from the counter. It is a cleaner look. Good luck! :)

I added a backsplash using the first tiles in your post, then added lighting under the cabinet to highlight them.

Tile straight up from the counter with the Allen & Roth glass and stone combo tile to get a nice consistent, clean look. There's no need to put a 2" solid stone on the wall - it's just another edge to keep clean.

I wouldn't use the 2" at the bottom. Also, only one tile as a backslash - the simpler the better. Your first tile might be a bit busy.

In our condo multi purpose kitchen they used the glass/metal tile as an accent strip. The gray tile is the same as the 18 inch on the floor. And yes the 2 inch black ice granite is also on the backsplash. It gets lots of compliments. So it is just personal preference I feel.

The mosaic has enough going on by itself. Don't add anything else to it. For a high end look, run the mosaic from the counter all the way up, like we did.

whenever possible, I always advise no 2" backsplash, the tile is the eyecatcher, and I would recommend the subway glass all the way around. Cabinet to counter, its gorgeous!

I'd take #1 or #3 from the counter to the ceiling or at least to the upper cupboards.

Using only tile as the backsplash creates a much cleaner and intentional look. Often doing a solid surface backsplash with tile above looks like an after thought. I vote for using only the mosaic!
