I plan two 60-100 arm-style wall-mounted barn lights over the sink (55 inch space), and undercabinet lighting. Of course, the actual ceiling width of the room will be closer to 9 feet with the cabinets going all the way to the ceiling. Presently, there is a 4-bulb, 4 foot fluorescent light (not recessed, just flush mount) centered fixture that provides the only other lighting in the room. My OTR microwave will also have a light in it as well. I really don't want to add 6-8 recessed lights in the space, and am wondering what to do. I have no kitchen designer, that was not in the budget!. But I have looked at lights til I have driven my family crazy! Flush-mount, semi-flush, replacing the fluor with a newer design T-8, what other options do I have besides a bunch of recessed lights? Pendants are great but not for an 8 foot ceiling. There is no island. The open end of the kitchen receives a ton of natural light from the floor-to-ceiling windows at the front of the A-frame part of the house and the window at the sink. But at dusk and night, I need light!!! Please I am open to suggestions!
