What style is the rest of the house? The kitchen should be in the same type of style as the other rooms.

Thank you the house is a beautiful white double brick victorian! My original option was the traditional kitchen however I recently discovered the modern high gloss which also looks amazing, but I think I should stick to my original choice .

In historic preservation, there are two schools of thought - either try to blend new materials to look old, or make the new materials look obviously new. The shaker cabinets aren't any more Victorian than the modern kitchen, though. I would go with the high gloss cabinets unless they don't match your decorating style in the other rooms at all :)

I just installed a bir in my room, i asked for a traditional bir however they installed a modern satin floor to ceiling robe instead & I love it, hence why I started to think perhaps I should install the modern gloss kitchen instead of a traditional one . Btw the kitchen is part of a new extension at the back of the house. I'm so indecisive ..

There's nothing more jarring than additions that don't match up well with the original house. I would go with similar molding and cabinets that would work with what you have in the rest of the house visually.

Do they possible have the shaker w/ grey? Which would give you a modern look w/ a little traditional w/ the shaker cabinet faces. You could use a white engineered stone for the countertop and chrome finish for plumbing and door hardware.

#2! Especially if you have a Victorian house!

Cheers for the photo, something to ponder on, you are actually spot on with the D shaped chrome door handles, which is exactly what I'm having, to match handles of my stainless steel appliances, also these handles are modern and easy to use especially for elderly people. I'm having a 900mm x 2200mm island with large sink, with a Silestone top, off white colour with a marble effect, the benches on the perimeter will be a black Silestone. I was going to have marble, but it's just too high maintenance. I'll think about the grey colour thank you .

Sounds like #2 goes better with the rest of your house. You could go with #2 but get flat panel cabs with high gloss white paint. Shiny which I used to shun has begun to grow on me lately.

Marble in a kitchen is very difficult to maintain, so many things that will discolorit and no sealer will fill the porous nature of marble. There are some other options.

The interior of the house is really the heart of it...especially the kitchen, where, unless you are totally a non-cook, many fond memories of food and friends, family are made. also, this about this.....are you going to spend the rest of your life in this home? or at least the next 10 years maybe?
Do you remember what your tastes were like 10-15 years ago? have they changed since then? Do you still like the same colors? I'm going to suggest strongly that you pick #2....because it is a timeless design, and can, with a few tweaks here & there....be a space that you will enjoy being in even as your tastes change.

That is the great thing about the shaker style door fronts do a few things and you could have a whole new cabinet.

Thank you, I've chosen Silestone and in this photo are the 2 sample colours I've selected, the white stone for the island bench and the darker one for the perimeter benches

FYI - I chose the Traditional white kitchen, with the Silestone bench tops which is a Quartz stone. Island bench will be white colour called Pulsar and the perimeter benches will be a black colour called Dreis (pics attached). Thanks everyone for comments, now to decide on back splash. I'm leaning towards either high gloss white subway tiles with a white or light grey grout (bit worried about the up keep of cleaning this), or marble.

With your home. I would go the traditional look. It will be timeless. The other looks cheap to me.

On backsplash. Subway is always good. But keep grout white also. Back splashes don't usually get that dirty.

So white subway tiles with white grout it is, for now, but will also look at the subway porcelain too, @sandraclark please explain what you meant by, "closely set in running bond".

I like the cabinets in #2 but change the hardware to something more similar to the hardware in the more modern one!
