Here at Mimo we are often asked about whether or not it is safe/practical to continue wood flooring into bathrooms. What kind of wood flooring should be used? Will the water from shower/sink ruin the floor?

These are all very valid questions and should be considered before moving forward. The simple answer is that as long as you use the correct type of wood flooring, it is installed correctly, and you are a little careful you should have no trouble with adding wood flooring in your bathrooms.

As for the correct type of flooring to use, it is HIGHLY recommended to use prefinished engineered wood flooring. Engineered wood flooring is much more stable than solid flooring and will not expand/contract like solid flooring when faced with moisture and humidity. Also, choosing a prefinished floor with a factory applied UV or Poly finish is very important. A traditional oil finish will only give you problems with staining and grime.

On the installation side it is very important to have a tight professional installation done. You don't want any gaps between planks in a bathroom installation.

Other than that there is not much to worry about other than not letting excessive amounts of water sit on the flooring for long periods of time. Simply wiping with a towel will suffice.
