You could get a bench there. It can be used to get the shoes on and even have some shoes stored underneath. That is what we did in our foyer. I'll try to find some photos of oyr entrance

We have these Ikea shoe cabinets in our foyer... they are amazingly helpful. I've also seen people paint the cupboard fronts with a pop colour which can brighten up a space.

With your very high ceiling, I think the space could take a small narrow white bench (with some metal to compliment your mirror) without the foyer looking cramped. I would place the mirror above the bench and add art above the table (+ a light) and a larger area rug would bring the whole area together.

I agree that a small bench would be great. It would look balanced and would be functional as well. To add more interest, select one that you can upholster the top with a great fabric. Changing out your rug to a really great one is another option to add some interest. Consider whether the rug could be slightly bigger. That way the rug would be under the feet of those sitting on the bench taking off wet boots.

If you add another piece of furniture like the shoe cab/bench, it may start looking "heavy" in the foyer.

I also like the idea to keep it simple. Maybe three pictures hung vertically. Nothing else on that wall. A more interesting, slightly larger rug with blue tones would be beautiful.

So the reason I went with the boring area rug is because straight off the foyer is the stairway leading upstairs, with a patterned runner (chosen by previous owners). I was afraid to clash with the color and style of the runner, though it is way more traditional than what we would have chosen. Thoughts? Recommendations?

I think your foyer looks great and you don't need anything in that corner. It is too small to add something substantial and the other side looks terrific and is your focal point. I do like the idea of hanging something simple on the wall and moving the hammered vase somewhere else. Maybe try placing the silver vase on the console table with something in it.

I think a niche type mural on the wall. Place a simple floating shelf under the mural. Add a short vase and some daisies or poppies or sculpture, your design style.

We have a similar corner in our foyer. Since our coat closet isn't big, we decided to make a custom coat rail. It's very convenient with we host larger groups, and gives a landing place for the kid's backpacks. The only risk is the ease at which the corner gets messy, but I love the function.

Your foyer is beautiful! I am thinking a coat rail would be nice also. I have a similar space behind my door with no closet in the area. Would love to see a picture of yours Kris Q4!

Hi there, That is a nice front door with the sidelights! I'd play that up a bit... paint it, door and sidelights, (not trim, trim should stay the same color as rest of trim in your house) a color that coordinates with your main level, but something that will draw a little more attention than the white.
