Black granite everywhere?

I'm putting in off white cabinets in a new home and just recently am re-considering absolute black granite for at least the island. My dilemma is the other countertop area in the kitchen. I'm afraid if it's all that black, it "disappears" I to darkness whereas if I choose a cream colored granite it will brighten up the kitchen. Experience? Thoughts to share?

The black granite will absorb the light in the room like wet asphalt absorbs light when it's raining. I would go with something lighter.
