I'd change the dining table to wood. The glass one disappears into the vast whiteness. A larger more colorful area rug. Large potted plants and/or tall urns to fill in the space and break up the white.

The way it is set up feels more like a church or a hall. I would try to soften up the space by adding drapery or greenery. I would also choose lighter furniture with soft textures. Move the dining room table somewhere else or change out the set to something less cold. And remove that dark wood gothic looking hutch?

Bring in some bright colours for pops of colour on your light furniture!!

Replace dark living room furniture with lighter furniture; absolutely add area rugs to tie everything together (big enough so that all funriture touches it) and get some oversized chandeliers or floor lamps such as the arco light. Try to separate the living area from the entry area as it feels church-like and uninviting by adding screens and two huge oversized plants (palms?) on each size marking the living room area...

I think you need two large rugs to define each area and two chandeliers.The Asian piece at the stairs (part of an altar?)...try that between the two spaces.I think you have too many sofas and would prefer to see one sofa and 6 chairs grouped in twos.It is an unbelievable space, but we can all see how difficult this is going to be for you to cozy up.

Very unusual space......Where is the kitchen? I agree with above: the space looks more like a huge enty hall rather than a living room dining room. More info plz.
But, I'm going to assume you cannot buy new furniture and are limited to the exisiting space or seating and dining functions. Therefore, you need to purchase a much bigger area rug for the sofa area (meaning a large Persian carpet which extends a few inches beyond the backs of all sofas/chairs). If you can't buy a new dining table, you need to put on a dark, very interesing table cloth to help anchor the table and chairs. Lastly, I would paint the coluums and arches two tones. Perhaps a darker coral and tan. Or a gold and a blue. The wall colors would be best chosen AFTER you fall in love with a carpet which coordinates with your existing burgundy furniture. Then you pull the paint colors from your area rug.

Add PERSONAL touches to take away from the hotel lobby feeling this has. There is nothing here that says someone lives here.

I agree, it looks more like a department store, church, or hotel lobby. But, it seems easy to fix. I would focus on textures because every looks cold and hard currently.

1. Huge area rugs defining the dining area and the living room area. All of the living room furniture should be able to fit on the one rug, and same with the dining room furniture sitting on the other rug. This will help break up the space into zones instead of it looking like one big hallway.

2. In the living room area, have different clusters of seating. Introduce club chairs, a round coffee table. All of your furniture now just echos the rectangular square of the space. Think of everything on the living room rug as its own room and then decorate within that space and don't make it so perimeter oriented.

3. Have some urns with large fanning plants at some of the columns. I would not have them be on each column, pick an odd number and stagger them so they are not directly across from each other. It will help the eye wander through the space and break up the symmetry.

4. Replace glass tables with wood. Use lots of rich browns and earth tones. You want to bring some softness to the space to balance out the cold harsh stone.

5. Put a natural fiber runner on both stair cases. They look too mechanical and stark.

I would add some large palm like plants. at least 6' - 8" tall.

Larger area rugs to define the dining and conversation areas. Much larger.

My WORD that's a huge and beautiful space. Where do you live? The Sistine Chapel? Just kidding, it's a magnificent space. Lucky you!

We suggest lighter furniture and a nice, bright area rug to help tie the concept together. The rug will help you decide the rest of the decor. This is a wonderful space!
