Need help with family room layout

We just moved into a new home and have one small family room that will be our main area to watch TV. There is a fireplace that we are looking to remodel to a gas insert. I'd really like to be able for 4 - 6 people to be able to sit and watch TV comfortably without losing the fireplace. Right now, with the TV in the corner, only a couple of people have a good viewing angle on the couch. We are considering mounting the TV above the fireplace (after lowering the brick), but have received advice from the fireplace installation company that it isn't good for our TV (heat exposure). Are we better to move the TV to the other wall? What furniture do you recommend to maximize the room usage? The picture is taken with my back to a large window. To the left is a staircase. To the right is our kitchen.

post pictures of all sides of the room so we can see what can fit where.

I'm having the same problem with the family room in the home I just purchased and have spent hours trolling the internet for design ideas. Everyone seems to agree that in a room with both a tv and a fireplace, you have to choose a focal point. Since this will be your family's main tv watching room; I'd suggest wall mounting your TV on the wall that currently has the artwork, putting the art work above the fireplace, and repositioning the couch at a 90 deg angle to the left of the fireplace directly across from the TV. Maybe 2 of those low profile armless chairs facing the fireplace and a few of those square or cylindrical poofs that can double as extra seating (great for kids) or end tables or a coffee table when grouped together. A sectional will seat the most people with leaving the TV where it is.

Option, place the TV on artwork wall. A chair angled to the TV on the right side of the fireplace. An L-shaped furniture grouping of two small sofas, or large sofa and loveseat sofa. whatever works best to fit (placed like the current chair and sofa are presently).
