Kitchen shelves?

Hi! We just moved here, and I'm stumped with what to do with this tiny wall. I love farmhouse open shelves, but worry the sliding door next to it may cause things to knock over. The contractor said we could fit a 12 inch cabinet, but I love the light and don't want to close anything off for such a small cabinet. The wall is 19inches, and our family room is on the other side of the room. If we do go with shelves, should we do cream like the caninets, white, or wood (the floors are dark wood). Thank you! I've been thinking about this for weeks!

LOVE the idea of shelving like the cabinets. Maybe put some cookbooks and items that will not budge easily if the door does impact the shelves.

I would put a cabinet there to give the wall some balance.

I would be putting up a window treatment valance that would be in a contoured shape over the kitchen and the family room slider they could arch over each of the windows and come down together onto the wall. It would look very pretty and if you go to the ceiling with the treatments you will still have all of the light you have now!

I think it needs the final cabinet to complete the look/balance of the kitchen. That will not cut off much light.

Something like these below. Put something heavy enough not to be blown over from the door like a teapot collection. Paint to match if you want but probably not necessary.

Either 2 shelves that match the cabinet or some artwork- maybe even a chalkboard you can write messages on?

If you are worried about items falling off shelves, add a stop in the front. I think shelves with cookbooks and maybe an antique kitchen tool or 3.

I think another matching cabinet for balance. Also a shelf above the window with three large pitchers on it would be really cute! Have fun!

Thank you all so much for your advice! I love hearing what you think! Yes, I could get a cabinet to match as the kitchen was just redone before we bought it. I'm leaning toward the shelves because I don't want to close off the window and kitchen. The stop is a terrific idea! Thank you all again!
